Rapidshare Gets Owned By German Court
In another copyright-infringement violation case, Rapidshare, the popular file hosting website, has been slapped in the teeth with a $34 million fine. GEMA (a group which represents thousands of artists, authors, etc.) was reponsible for bringing up the case, claiming that Rapidshare was hosting thousands of files it represents and protects.
Not only will Rapidshare have to shell out the big bucks, they’re also going to have to sift out said files which have caused these problems for them in the first place. Ah, the wonderful world of taking the heat for your users.
Word is that Rapidshare is planning to appeal the the ruling. We’ll keep following this.
The fact of the matter is, when you’re letting millions of users upload content, you’re bound to get in trouble. Your move, Rapidshare.
