China shuts down access to Bing!
China has begun blocking access to Bing and Twitter through the Great Firewall of China in light of the Tiananmen Square protests anniversary on June 4. China is notorious for “protecting” its citizens by blocking access to certain sites, like YouTube and Wikipedia. Other sites blocked include: Flickr.com, Blogger.com, Hotmail.com, and Live.com. The question remains as to whether or not this really does anything for the Chinese people. It seems like the country is in constant fear of uprising – and this is most certainly their way of preventing it. Hopefully, they will soon grant unlimited access to Chinese citizens (wishful thinking).
During the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008, all blocks were lifted for the duration of the games so as to give tourists and attendees unlimited access to the web.
