Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Banned in Russia

November 16th, 2009 Posted in World by Eric

modernwarefareair1Well, it was bound to happen. Activision’s ultra-successful video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been banned in the motherland some call Russia.

The ban and recall of all games sold comes after an extremely violent level in the game allows the player to kill innocent passengers in a Russian airport. The decision to take the game off of store shelves actually originated from players themselves, who were apparently shocked and unhappy with the level. It’s important to note here that the level is optional.

Infinity Ward is expected to patch the video game by removing the airport level completely, and will be reviewed by the Russian government. If approved, the re-release could happen in less than a month.

It is sad to see that in 2009 Russian “officials” still have an archaic way of thinking, and are still unable to destinguish between art & reality. The Stalin-istic thought process that made the USSR such a dreadful place for it’s population still lingers.

What superdynamite calls an “archaic way of thinking” I call esthetic good taste. This game should be offensive to Americans as well. Leaving aside impressive graphics and quick, virtually flawless game play, the script is stupid, not just tasteless and repulsive. The real world is awful enough. Is it too much to ask that the scriptwriting create a probable plot and characterization? The Russian and American principals, Makarov and Shepherd are cases in point, both totally cynical and unscrupulous. One searches in vain for a believable motive for their actions. Arguing that it’s just a game, or fiction doesn’t cut it. The Brits are about the only ones who come off looking well in this one, and Gee, I wonder why.

Its made apparent in the game that the player is not “loyal” to russia therefore if they were going to ban it they should do it everywhere and not just in russia because of the location. The ban is stupid. I think people can decide for them selves…

i think its gay that there banning it. who gives a fuck if its in russia airport. this game would be the same like any other game like gta iv. u kill people u kill cops and u run people over with your fucking car. you also can shoot who ever the fuck u want it cud even be an old lady. vice city was where u cud rob banks. im just saying they shouldnt banned it. u have chooise in the game to skip it or shoot people or dont shoot them. i dont think its big deal. plus were killing iraqus and there citisains in games as well and if they think this is sooo bad then i think its bad for them to be able to kill iraqus. im jsing people dont have to make big deal about a level in a game because its just a gamme its not real life. and ill tell you um i shot every one in the air port. even the cops no matter what when u step out air port the russican police shoot at u and if thats russsian airport those are russian police
