MySpace Starts Beta For Its New Webmail Service

July 31st, 2009 Posted in Online, Technology by Bertrand

Not long ago, we reported about MySpace’s new service: @myspace.com webmail service. Yesterday, they started a quiet Beta. Don’t get too happy yet, as reports say MySpace Mail will be accessible to users around the globe gradually, meaning not all users will have access right away.

Succesful SetUp

Some of the cool features Myspace Mail will offer are:

  • New Mail center provides a snapshot of all your mail activities including messages, sent messages, requests, and notifications
  • Send and receive messages from inside or outside the MySpace network
  • Unlimited file storage
  • One click to embed photos directly from your profile or desktop
  • Send and receive file attachments including music and video
  • Search within Mail using our Google Gears implementation
  • Check out friends’ activities in real time via the new Mail Activity Stream module
  • Address book that automatically saves your contacts

Another cool thing is that since MySpace  gave its users the option to create vanity URLs a lont time ago, you can actually use it as your new @myspace e-maill address. For example if Erictric’s MySpace URL was www.myspace.com/iluverictric, our e-mail adress would be iluverictric@myspace.com. Don’t worry though, if you are not satisfied with your current vanity URL, MySpace has got you covered. They will actually give you the chance to change to something else. Although, this would also change your profile’s vanity URL.

If you would like to compare MySpace Mail to other e-mail providers check out the image below:

The big question is: with almost 130 million users worldwide, how many will make the switch to MySpace Mail? I personally don’t think I will. Feel free to let us know if you make the switch and what your personal experience is with the new webmail service.
