Moving to the cloud is all the rage these days. With Google’s Chrome OS event still fresh in everyone’s minds, we begin thinking about all of the pros and cons to a cloud based OS. The pros of course come in the form of speed, less reliance on hardware specifications, and many other market changing factors. Looking at the darker side of things, security comes to mind, as does backing up such data. Backupify is a tool that could make cloud based computing fears a thing of the past. Since I’ve joined the whole blogging revolution a little over a year ago, I’ve found myself becoming more and more interested and drawn in to services and products I never thought I’d care about. Thinks like Twitter and Photobucket seem like novelty “time killers” — well, they did. As I’ve learned, they are a huge help in sharing information, regardless of what it is, in fast and convenient ways.

One worry of the digital world that always haunts many a geeks’ minds is that of data loss. Losing even a little bit of a post for me is a pain because my daily schedule is already jam packed. Having to redo something I’ve already set aside time for is a hassle. Likewise, this feeling of frustration and hopelessness can be applied over many different forms of society. But it doesn’t have to be so bad.

Backupify is one of the first online backup services I’ve seen that is as robust and cost effective yet. With support for services such as Facebook, Twitter, Wordpress, Blogger, Photobucket, and much, much more –  it’s definitely worth a look.

Navigating your personal space on Backupify’s website is fast and intuitive. There are places to enter personal information about yourself in your profile as well as several other settings that can be tweaked. But the meat of the service is it’s ability to back up online accounts and services. Simply enter your credentials for the supported services, grant access to Backupify, and schedule how often you’d like to have backups performed. One other handy feature is the ability to be alerted as to when backups have completed either daily, weekly, or whenever any data is synced and backed up.

I’ve only been using the service for a few days and already love it. It gives me piece of mind that in the extremely rare case of a server problem on a particular online services servers, I have a backup as to get my online live back in order. Of course, actually getting that backup to the service that failed is another story as not every service supported by Backupify is a simple 1-click restore. Still, having that backup takes a lot of worry off my mind.
