Google Translate Text-to-Speech Feature Now Supports 34 Languages

Google announced today on its Google Translate Blog that the text-to-speech feature on Google Translate now supports 34 different languages from around the world. Originally, the feature was only able to speak out loud words and sentences in English. Then, the company added support for Haitian Creole. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago, that the service was able to speak words in French, Italian, German, Hindi, and Spanish. Now, thanks to the open source speech synthesizer eSpeak, Google is able to bring support for even more languages.
According to Google, users are now able to hear words in Afrikaans, Albanian, Catalan, Chinese (Mandarin), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Latvian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Swahili, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, and Welsh.
Google Launches New Features for Google Translate
Google announced today on the ever so trusty Official Google Blog that they have launched three new features and a new look for Google Translate. The new features include:
- Translate instantly: Google Translate now instantly translates your text right as you typing it.
- Read any language: With the exception of Persian, Hebrew, and Arabic characters, you can now read all non-Latin characters as phonetically written in English by just clicking on “Show romanization.”
