Rumor Alert: BlackBerry Storm2 Getting New Enhanced Touchscreen

Rumor has it that starting with Verizon Wireless, the BlackBerry Storm2 could be recalled in a worldwide basis due to faulty touchscreens. Research In motion is said to have already started repairing the screens by adding a silicone curator. As a matter of fact, all BlackBerry Storm2 smartphones manufactured from February 10 and on have received the aforementioned improvement.
As for customers with faulty Storm2 devices, they are said to receive a “Certified Like-New Replacement” as long as their warranty is still valid and they meet certain requirements.

Verizon Will Indeed No Longer Sell The Storm 9530 And Other BlackBerry Smartphones

It’s a sad day, everyone. Well, at least for me. As we have learned today that Verizon Wireless will indeed be ceasing sales of the BlackBerry Storm 9530 along with the Curve 8330 and 8830, and even the Pearl Flip. The purging also includes other lower-end feature phones. The information comes directly from a photo of Verizon Wireless internal system [pictured above], which clearly shows the aforementioned devices in the dreaded “End of Life Devices.”
We first heard rumors that Verizon Wireless would halt sales of the BlackBerry Storm a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, we didn’t have much information at the time and assumed both the first and second generation of the Storm would be discontinued. Luckily, the Storm2 is here to stay for at least one more year while another new model comes along.
No date specific date for the purging to take effect has been provided. Also, take into account that we cannot confirm the legitimacy of the photo above. More information as we learn more.

Verizon Debuts First BlackBerry Storm2 Commercial

Since Verizon decided to be all secretive and quiet about the BlackBerry Storm2, we didn’t get to see any teasing ads for it. Heck, at some points it even felt like Verizon was not even going to carry the Storm2. That’s all left behind now, as the BlackBerry Storm2 was officially released today, October 28th, on Verizon’s network. To accompany it, Verizon has launched a 30 second commercial titled “Lightning.” Check it out after the break: More »

Verizon Launching The BlackBerry Storm2 on October 28th, After All?
Here we go again! New proof has just surface stating that Verizon will finally launch the BlackBerry Storm2 on October 28th. This time it’s looking very promising!
First, Crackberry received the image above, which shows the BlackBerry Storm2 blog post on Verizon’s intranet that we’ve grown so fond of in the past couple of weeks. It apparently has been updated to show October 28th as the awaited Storm2 launch date.
Second, a CrackBerry member posted a Verizon BlackBerry Storm2 document [PDF] on the CrackBerry Forums. The first page clearly points to October 28th as the launch date. The document is very interesting as it explains the Verizon BlackBerry Storm2 in great detail.
Lastly, we got more evidence of an October 28th launch date before when promotional posters surfaced with the following code in a corner: BLKBN40X281009. Many assumed that the “281009″ meant “18-10-09,” others thought the ‘28′ was just part of the posters’ dimensions.
Hopefully, this time Verizon does not fail us again. Though, it’s looking like this time they’re serious and won’t disappoint us.
October 21st is Gone And Verizon Didn’t Launch The BlackBerry Storm2

Even though we all knew Verizon changed its mind about launching the BlackBerry Storm2 on October 21st, many of us, BlackBerry enthusiasts, were still a little bit hopeful that a miracle would somehow happen and Verizon would at least announce the Storm2. Well, it’s now October 22 and as it was expected nothing happened. Instead, Verizon has focused all its time and attention on the Droid ad campaign by sending out invitations to an October 28th event and postcards dated for November 9th. We still don’t know what the latter date means.
At least we got quite a few things to look forward today to console us and distract our minds for the time being, like the launch of Windows 7, the grand opening of the very first Microsoft Store in Scottsdale, Arizona, or even the launch and final unveiling of the Dell Adamo XPS. As for you Verizon, when will you announce the BlackBerry Storm2? Perhaps, October 28th?
By the way, is anyone going to a Windows 7 Launch Party? People are supposed to start throwing those parties today.
Verizon: Original BlackBerry Storm to Get Firmware Update to Improve Scrolling and Browsing
Unfortunately, Verizon won’t have any special deals for customers who own the original BlackBerry Storm and wish to upgrade to the new Storm2. Although, Verizon and Research In Motion are not forgetting about first generation BlackBerry Storm owners. PhoneArena claims that according to a Verizon rep, Verizon will release a firmware update that will pretty much make the original Storm and the Storm2 “practically identical” in software capabilities. Improvements such as flick scrolling, tabbed browsing, and threaded texting are coming to the original Storm with that new update.
The Verizon rep went on to say that the only difference between the 2 Storms is that the Storm2 will have Wi-Fi capabilities, a slightly different look, plastic buttons, a few other features. Take all those things away and you pretty much have the same device, but without having to pay extra money.
I just hope that firmware update doesn’t take forever to be released.
Rumor Alert: Verizon BlackBerry Storm2 to Have MiFi Capabilities?

This is a new, very last minute, and unconfirmed rumor. According to a new screenshot [image below] from Verizon’s intranet, the BlackBerry Storm2 will be released on the initial October 21st launch date. This goes against a previous screenshot that stated Verizon doesn’t have a confirmed launch date. Anyway, that’s not the important news though, what’s really interesting here is, the Storm2 will ”include MiFi capabilities.” At this point, we are not sure if ‘MiFi’ is meant as in the little device that allows you to create a mini Wi-Fi network to share with up to 5 users, or as in Novatel’s internal hardware. We haven’t seen any official information of this kind of capabilities in the official specifications nor at the Storm2 page on BlackBerry.com. If rumors are true, and Verizon does announce or launch the Storm2 on October 21st, we won’t have to wait long to find out. We’ll keep you informed.

BlackBerry Storm2 Features, Specifications, And Gestures

It’s official! The BlackBerry Storm2 is almost here. There’s no doubt in my mind and I guess everyone’s minds that it will be most certainly released this month. All the pieces are falling into place now. In the meantime, we got downloadable BlackBerry Storm2 full specifications and gestures [both in PDF] for you to look at while you wait for the new Storm to hit shelves. You can also check out all the new features in the image above.
