Microsoft Introduces Zoom.it

The Microsoft Live Labs has introduced a free new tool called Zoom.it that allows users to take and share high-resolution web-images. The service converts the image to “Deep Zoom” format, which allows users to zoom the image around no matter how large it is. According to Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft, Zoom.it runs on “Windows Azure and enhances the experience with Microsoft Silverlight.”
One of the best features of Zoom.it is its ability to take a long screenshot of an entire web page and convert it to “Deep Zoom” format, as demonstrated in the full post with the Erictric homepage. All users have to do is visit http://zoom.it and enter the URL of certain website, including the http:// or https:// part, and click the “Create” button. Zoom.it will automatically do the rest and provide users with a short URL or embedding code to make it easier to share the newly-created images.
HTC Droid Incredible Saves Screenshots of Websites Visited — Big Privacy Issue

Uh oh. The HTC Droid Incredible, which Erictric recently reviewed, is about to become a really bad headache for its owners. It has been confirmed that the HTC Sense UI bookmarking widget on the device takes screenshots of websites visited. Now, that’s not really a big deal itself, considering that many other devices such as computer and even other smartphones save data from the sites folk visit on a daily basis.
The problem is that, unlike other devices, it’s ‘incredibly’ hard to delete all the screenshots taken by the widget. It has been proven that closing the browser, deleting the browsing history, and even after a complete factory reset, the screenshot remain. This is potentially dangerous for those selling or giving away their phone, specially after they have visited sites with sensible data such as online banking websites.
Upcoming Amazon Kindle Slim to Be Equipped with Wi-Fi

Yesterday, Erictric reported that Amazon is planning to launch a slimmer version of its successful and popular ebook reader — The Kindle — in August. At the moment, details are pretty scarce. However, an intranet screenshot has surface today showing that the device under codename “Shasta” will be equipped with Wi-Fi, making it the very first version of Kindle to include Wi-Fi. Also seen in the photo is another “Shasta” device with no Wi-Fi. The tipster who provided the screenshots is not quite certain whether there will be different models with Wi-Fi and/or 3G.
This further confirms rumors that Amazon is actually aiming to compete with the Apple iPad with its new Kindle ebook reader. One of the disadvantages of the iPad is that is quite heavy and it’s LCD screen is not too good for extended reading.

Twitter to Launch Embeddable Tweets Tomorrow

Twitter announced today on the Twitter Media Blog that beginning tomorrow, users will now be able to embed tweets on their blogs and/or online news publications. Their goal is to eliminate the hassle of taking screenshot of tweets or the underwhelming simplicity of quoted tweets — let’s face it, tweets with no author or other Twitter elements look bad.
Twitter’s solution is actually “a snippet of code you’ll be able to use to generate simple, selectable flat-HTML tweets” such as the one pictured above.
Alleged iPhone 4G Images Nothing But Fake

Yesterday, Erictric published a story with a few alleged images of the back case of the iPhone 4G. Turns out the images are nothing but completely and utterly fake. The person responsible? A 23 year old French 3D modeler nicknamed Jpog. He confessed on his personal blog that he sent the images to a few websites specializing in Apple rumors, which created a big hype. He explains that he utilized 3DS Max to create the images, which explains why meta-data in the images revealed Photoshop had been used.
To prove that he was indeed the culprit, he provided the screenshot above showing his work in process. He’s definitely getting more press than he deserves for this.
First Alleged Images of Internet Explorer 9 Leaked?
Chinese website LiveSino.net has posted a couple of alleged screenshots of Microsoft’s upcoming browser, Internet Explorer 9. As you can see in both images [click to enlarge them], the new interface looks super-minimalist, simple, and very sleek. There are no too many cluttering buttons, and overall the new look is very reminiscent of the Windows Phone 7 UI. If these images are the real thing, we believe the new browser is looking absolutely fantastic. So much in fact that it could make Internet Explorer cool once again.
Do take into account that it’s April’s Fool today, therefore someone could be playing a very cruel prank on all of us. There’s no way we can confirm the legitimacy of these images. However, even if these are just fake images, kudos to whoever made them. This is what people really want in a browser, and Microsoft should be paying attention to this – that is if they are fake.

First BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6.0 Image Surfaces

Polish website BBNews.pl [Google translation] has released a screenshot of what looks like the upcoming version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6.0 for PC. As you can see in the image above, the new version looks a lot more similar to its BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac counterpart. We really like the new interface, as it looks be more informative and easier to use than the current version.
Unfortunately, we do not have any other kind of information. We don’t know when it’s going to be released, or if it will introduced new features. Interestingly enough, there’s a new ‘Podcasts’ option in the ‘Media’ folder. While BlackBerry smartphones have always had that folder, it appears like Research In Motion has better plans for it. Some speculate that users will now be able to download podcasts using their browsers instead of third-party applications.
We shall find out more in the near future.
