Google Partners Up With Arcade Fire to Launch HTML5 Chrome Experiment

Arcade Fire Google Chrome Experiment

Mountain View, California-based Google has partnered up with Montreal, Quebec-based indie rock band Arcade Fire to create a HTML5-based experiment for Google Chrome”The Wilderness Downtown.” Now, it’s a little bit difficult to define or even describe what the experiment really is, as it’s composed of several elements such as audio, film, graphics, and other interactive features. Users are asked to enter their childhood address at the beginning.

Once the experiment begins, several Chrome windows open while playing “We Used To Wait” by Arcade Fire. Some of the windows show graphics and video clips, while others show Google Maps aerial and Street View images of the childhood address entered at the beginning. All the while, all the features are paired with HTML5 to make the experience truly interactive and fun.

At one point, one is even asked to write or draw a postcard to a younger self.

Verizon iPhone Rumors: New Antenna, Retina Display, Fast Processor

Apple iPhone 4There’s been talk about a Verizon iPhone since, well, the iPhone came out. We’re no strangers to rumors, so here’s some more conjecture about the device that could hit stores early next year.

Blog DVICE has published a post on Thursday indicating that “a source who claims to have handled prototypes of the rumored Verizon iPhone” has revealed some interesting information. The source says: a new internal antenna, a more rugged exterior, a faster processor (1.2Ghz), and a retina display.

Look, I really, really want to believe this, but I’m calling B.S. right off the bat. A “source” would not want to openly speak about handling prototypes unless they’re about ready to quit their jobs. Minor elements (like release dates, information on accessories) are believable.Certainly, this is likely just a way to get pageviews, and it’s working.

Microsoft Obtains ARM Architecture License

ARM Holdings Corporate Logo

Cambridge, England-based ARM Holdings announced today in partnership with Microsoft that they have both signed a new licensing agreement for the ARM architecture. Considering that the terms of the agreement are being kept confidential, it’s unknown what exactly Redmond-based Microsoft will be utilizing its newest rights for. However, Microsoft General Manager KD Hallman stated that now that they have closer access to the ARM technology, [Microsoft] will be able to enhance its “research and development activities for ARM-based products.”

Rumor has it that Microsoft, just like Cupertino-based Apple did, plans to create its very own microprocessor chip. If true, there’s no doubt that the company will put its newest knowledge of ARM architecture into use to create its chip.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide Makes Debut Today

mytouch-3g-slide-stock

The somewhat-anticipated myTouch 3G officially made its debut on T-Mobile’s network earlier today, bringing yet another Android-based handset into the mobile market. With a 1700Mhz processor, five-megapixel camera sensor, and of course the Sense UI from HTC, the device seems just about perfect for anyone who enjoys a good Android experience.

You can purchase one of these puppies for about $179.99 with an Even More plan and two-year agreement, or you can purchase the device contract-free for a whopping $429.99 with the Even More Plus plan. Additionally, you have the option of financing the device at $21.50 per month for a whole 20 months — which is absolutely not worth it, given all of the cooler devices that will be out by then.

Another Image of Motorola Droid Shadow Surfaces

Motorola Droid Shadow

A new image of the Motorola Droid Shadow, or what we all think is the Droid Shadow anyway, has surface today at the HowardForums. The photo comes just hours after a Verizon Wireless employee accidentally left his testing device in a corporate gym in Washington. The device was later found, thoroughly examined, and even photographed by another gym-goer.

Unfortunately, things get a bit interesting and weird with today’s leak. When it comes to certain specifications and features, things don’t match at all with the information leaked yesterday. For instance, we were told yesterday that the device features a 4.3 inch screen, Snapdragon processor, and 16GB of internal storage. However, we are being told today that device actually features a 4.1 inch screen, Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 (720MHz ARM Cortex A8) processor, and just 8GB of internal storage.

The leak today does corroborate that the device includes a HDMI output and 8 megapixel camera. The image today is also the first time that the Droid Shadow is showcased in a different angle. We cannot verify the authenticity of this image, therefore we will leave it up to you to decide which leak you want to believe in.

New MacBook Leaked, Unboxed

New MacBook unboxing

Vietnam is beginning to gain the title as a central hub for Apple leaks, it seems. Just days ago, we reported with regard to an iPhone 4G prototype found in the Asian country. Now, Apple’s brand-spanking-new MacBooks have been leaked in Vietnam, and shown on video.

Identified as a MacBook 7,1, the new machines sport a faster 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo processor, along with an NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics card with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM. In other words, pretty much the same specs as the entry-level MacBook Pro Apple offers, at a lower price — more than likely [$999] — the price of the current entry-level MacBook.

It’s interesting as to how Tinhte has gotten their hands on the device, but hey, just remember that this could be a hoax — though unlikely. Tinhte apparently has an impressive track record when in comes to this sort of thing.

You must watch the video unboxing after the break.

More Details About The BlackBerry Tablet

BlackBerry Tablet Concept

Remember when the Apple iPad was still a rumor, but everyone was anxious to know more about it? Well, it’s like deja-vu all over again with rumors of a possible BlackBerry Tablet by Research In Motion. Just a few days ago, we learned that the device was [allegedly] real, and that was currently under development under either “BlackPad” or “Cobalt” codenames. We also learned that it could be smaller and thinner than the iPad.

Now, according to Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar, Research In Motion was originally planning to use the Android operating system to power the tablet, but has reconsidered and decided to go with its own BlackBerry OS 6. Kumar also states that this mysterious BlackBerry Tablet will use a Marvell ARMADA processor instead of one made by Intel.

Additionally, a touchscreen swipe gesture patent was filed by RIM on April 1, 2010, and recently uncovered by BBLeaks. The patent describes how to use a finger in somewhat intricate moves to perform different actions such as close a window on a buttonless touchscreen device. As BBLeaks points out, many of the swipe gestures are reminiscent of gestures used by BumpTop, which Google acquired earlier this week.

Apple Soon To Ditch Intel CPUs in Favor of AMD?

AMD Logo

What are the chances that California-based Apple Computer Inc. begins to stray away from Intel-core processors on their lineup of systems? The answer turns out to be ‘quite likely’ actually, or at least according to new rumors.

A direct result of having a somewhat extensive CPU development cycle, Apple is reportedly unhappy with Intel at current, citing that the company is responsible for a slow hardware refresh cycle (case in point: MacBook Pro release). Top brass at AMD have been seen coming in and out of Apple’s Cupertino campus, signaling the hardware/software manufacturer may be considering AMD’s offerings for a new lineup of systems (or even future generations of current systems).

According to AppleInsider, “AMD could offer very competitive options for Apple’s future notebooks, particularly given the Mac maker’s focus on graphics performance and its related GPU technologies, including Grand Central Dispatch and OpenCL.”
