It appears the tipster was off by a few days, as the application is now officially available with over 120 channels. Unfortunately for many of you, it appears that the Howard Stern radio show won’t be available. The reasons are unknown at the moment.

The Sirius XM Radio app is supported by the BlackBerry Storm/Storm2, Curve 8500-8900, Bold 9000-9700, Tour 9600. The app requires a premium subscription from Sirius XM, though there’s a free 7-day trial available. All of the content, as you may be aware, is ad-free.

Premium Japan Twitter Service Not Happening, Just a Misunderstanding

November 28th, 2009 No Comments   Posted in World

Twitter JapanWe were quite shocked ourselves yesterday when we found out Twitter would become a premium service over in Japan. Today, we learn that they whole report was a big misunderstanding, and premium accounts will not be coming to Japan after all.

TechCrunch is reporting today that according to a press release put out by Twitter’s Japanese business partner, Digital Garage, there is essentially no plans to begin charging for Twitter in Japan in the foreseeable future.

“The recent media reports are likely a result of a misunderstood presentation by a
DG subsidiary, DG Mobile, about potential business opportunities that it could
explore as a third party. DG Mobile’s presentation was unrelated and separate
from the Twitter and Digital Garage partnership.”

Why the confusion? From what we can make of this fiasco, the talks about premium service were applicable for mobile monetization plans for the future, reports The Next Web. The misinterpretation originated from an employee of Digital Garage’s DG Mobile division.

Well, we’re slightly embarrassed for reporting a misinterpretation, and we’ll admit that we’ve been caught with our skirts over our heads!

Twitter Japan Introducing Premium Service in January [Updated]

November 27th, 2009 No Comments   Posted in World

Twitter JapanUPDATE: You can take everything we’ve written in this post and forget it. Please see the updated post on this matter.

Apparently, Twitter Japan will start introducing paid premium accounts beginning in January next year. It’s no secret that the Japanese branch of Twitter has always been a bit of a rebel compared to its few other counterparts. I mean, it’s the only subsidiary to have launched different services, including Twitvideo. Twitter Japan is also the only Twitter service to run ads.

Anyway, there aren’t too many details about the premium service said to start in January. According to Japanese IT Media [rough Google Translation], by introducing the premium service, Twitter aims to charge users just to view tweets from those with premium accounts. The fees will vary from 100 Yen  or U$1.15 to 1,000 Yen or about US$11.5 a month. User will be able to pay those fees using credit cards, using a pre-paid ticket, or by asking their mobile carrier to add the charges to the monthly bill.

There have been rumors for a while now about Twitter rolling out premium accounts. It’s nice to see that it’s finally starting to test such services. We doubt the system will be introduced to the other Twitter branches any time soon though. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Two screenshots of the premium service after the break. More »

Spotify Premium Subscribers Will Now Be Able to Play Music Offline on Their Computers

October 1st, 2009 No Comments   Posted in Entertainment, World

Available OfflineToday, Spotify will be releasing an update that will allow premium subscribers to be able to set any of their playlists as “Available offline” on their computers. This feature, as the name suggests, will allow users to listen to their favorite playlists offline on the desktopSpotify Updating version, just like the Spotify application for the iPhone.

With this new feature Spotify might become a bigger threat to Apple iTunes. Although, as I mentioned before, it is available to premium subscribers only. Meaning you have to pay £9.99-a-month or £120 annual subscription, at least in the UK. As we’ve reported before Spotify is not yet available in the US, but a US launch is planned by the end of 2009.
