Let The Games Begin: “Porn” On The iPhone

pornonipodThere’s some bittersweet reaction to Apple now allowing pornographic content on their App Store. Why suddenly, you ask? With the implementation of parental controls in the iPhone O.S. 3.0, it makes it somewhat easier to control what your children are seeing on their iPod Touchs/iPhones. Most of the so-called “porn apps” are somewhat innocent, showing nudity (hardly what I would call porn).

Here’s the problem: despite the fact that parental controls are now implemented in iPhone O.S. 3.0, this isn’t going to stop people (children, in particular) from looking at pornographic content. Take for example these apps. There are already people whining about how their children should not be exposed to this sort of material. While I agree that children should not be exposed to adult content, it isn’t Apple’s responsibility to look after a child, it’s the parent’s. Beside that, if a young kid wants to look at porn, he (or she, it happens) will find a way.

The fact that these (soft core, would be a nice way to put it) apps are causing problems is ridiculous. Consider this, one can obtain hardcore pornography simply by visiting Porn Hub on his/her iPod Touch/iPhone. Funny thing is, it’s been like that since Porn Hub even developed the iPhone compatible site. Until now, we haven’t heard much whining.

What do you think of the introduction of adult content to Apple’s App Store?

Update: It appears that the first “porn” app (Hottest Girls – seen in the screenshot) has been removed by Apple, according to TechCrunch.

Update II: Apparently, the developer of the “Hottest Girls” app has removed access to the app to prevent the server from crashing.
