Rumor Alert: Windows 8 to Be Released in 2012?

It seems like the next Windows upgrade might be taking place in 2012. You see, the Windows Server team showed a couple of slides at the Professional Developers Conference [PDC] in Los Angeles, California that suggested that Windows Server will be majorly upgraded in 2012. One of the slides shows a “Windows 8″ codename due in 2012 [pictured above]. When asked in an interview about Windows 8, Microsoft’s President of the Windows Division, Steven Sinofsky, reacted all surprised claiming that he’s never even used the word Windows next to the number 8. So far, he’s refused to talk about Windows future plans.
Not much information is known about Windows 8 at this time. At least if the rumor is true, we have something else to look forward in 2012 besides the supposed end of the world. We’ll keep following this story for sure. One more image after the break. More »
Microsoft Releases Silverlight 4 in Beta for Developers

Microsoft recently released Silverlight 4 in beta at the Professional Developers Conference [PDC] in Los Angeles, California. The beta is currently available for developers only.
Microsoft Silverlight 4 will be full of new features, including:
- More fluid animations
- Webcam, microphone, and printing support
- Start times up to 200% faster than Silverlight 3
- Deep zoom and multi-touch support
- Google Chrome support [Yes, finally!]
Microsoft has put Silverlight 4 in direct competition with Adobe AIR 2.0 with its ability to take rich-media applications that fully support HTML and web integration outside the browser. Silverlight 4 will also support notifications. More »
First Internet Explorer 9 Details Revealed
Earlier today, we reported that Microsoft would be unveiling its plans for Internet Explorer 9 at the Professional Developers Conference [PDC] in Los Angeles, California. Well, the first details have been revealed.
Internet Explorer 9 is still in the very early stages of development. As a matter of fact, it has been in development for just three weeks. It’s all because of Windows 7. Microsoft decided to focus on one thing at a time, and since Windows 7 is out of the way, developers are now focusing on the new Internet Explorer. More »
Microsoft to Announce Its Internet Explorer 9 Plans Today
According to Neowin’s close sources, Microsoft will be unveiling its plans for Internet Explorer 9 today at the Professional Developers Conference [PDC] in Los Angeles, California. It is said that Microsoft VP Steven Sinofsky will reveal the details. There was also talks of a technical preview of Internet Explorer 9 for developers and customers, but now it seems that it won’t happen until CES 2010.
Plans for Silverlight 4 are to be announced today at the PDC by Scott Guthrie, VP in the Microsoft Developer Division. Internet Explorer 9 and Silverlight 4 are essential to fulfill Microsoft’s plans to make their services available for computers, phones and TVs.
