Apple Disputes Claims by NPD that Android Outsold iPhone in Q1 2010

Yesterday, Erictric reported that market research company NPD Group claimed that Android-powered smartphones outsold the Apple iPhone by 7% in the United States during the first quarter of this year. When asked for comment by AllThingsD Deputy Managing Editor John Paczkowski, Apple spokeswoman Natalie Harrison stated that the company is not at all concerned about the figures released by NPD Group.
Harrison released the following statement:
“This is a very limited report on 150,000 US consumers responding to an online survey and does not account for the more than 85 million iPhone and iPod touch customers worldwide. IDC figures show that iPhone has 16.1 percent of the smartphone market and growing, far outselling Android on a worldwide basis,” she added. “We had a record quarter with iPhone sales growing by 131 percent and with our new iPhone OS 4.0 software coming this summer, we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”

Microsoft: Windows 7 Sales 234% Higher Than Vista

According to the NPD Group, Windows 7 has started off much stronger than its counterpart, Windows Vista, did 2 years ago. As a matter of fact, NPD Group reports that Windows 7 sales in the first few days were 234% higher than Windows Vista. Windows 7 has done so good that it actually outsold the latest Harry Potter book.
Take into account that a number of factors including pre-sales and low prices might have affected Windows 7 sales. Still, it’s safe to say that people are still very excited about the latest Windows OS.
