South Korea Goes Cuckoo For iPhone 4
Let’s face it: the world loves iPhone. Folks from all corners of the world are willing to sacrifice hours of their lives to stand in line for the thing. So it probably won’t come as a surprise when we say that the iPhone 4 launch event in South Korea is going to be epic.
According to mobile operator Korea Telecom, the official KT website was slammed with traffic as iPhone 4 pre-ordering began. According to the company, “tens of thousands of people” quite simply made it their priority to pre-order an iPhone 4.
In the end, KT says it received a total of 110,000 pre-orders in a total of nine hours. Flash back to the launch of the iPhone 3GS, when the company received only 60,000 pre-orders in the first week.
It’s going to be big.

iPhone 3GS With WiFi Capabilities Coming To China Unicom Monday
It’s a well-known fact that China has prevented the iPhone 3GS from sporting WiFi capabilities for a great while due to the fact that the country’s government was instead trying to promote the WAPI standard as opposed to the IEEE 802.11 standard.
Late last month, the government approved WiFi capabilities for the iPhone 3GS, and consumers will be able to purchase the WiFi-enabled device from China Unicom beginning on Monday, August 9th.
It would appear as if only the 8GB model of the iPhone 3GS will sport WiFi networking, though the 16GB and 32GB variations will still be for sale sans WiFi.
WiFi-Enabled iPhone Gets Green Light From China
It would appear as if a WiFi-enabled iPhone is finally heading toward the planet’s most populated nation — China — according to documents from the country’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center. The center approved the device’s network access license, though according to the image appended with the document, it is suggested that the first WiFi-enabled device will wither be the iPhone 3G or 3GS — not the newly-released iPhone 4 smartphone.
Official word is expected from either Apple and/or China Unicom just a matter of time, though there isn’t very much information as to when the release of these WiFi-enabled devices will come about.
Until then, there’s always the gray market.
iPhone 4 to Have 512MB of RAM

While Apple has revealed much of the information regarding the upcoming iPhone 4, the company, as usual, did not reveal the amount of memory on the device. Since the launch of the original iPhone, Apple has never released tech specifications.
Well, it has been confirmed now that the soon-to-be-released iPhone 4 will feature 512MB of RAM. That’s twice that of the iPad and iPhone 3GS, both of which only have 256MB of RAM. The information was revealed by none other than Apple itself during one of its WWDC 2010 sessions last week, which is now available on the Apple Developer Center for registered developers only under the name: “Session 147, Advanced Performance Optimization on iPhone OS, pt 2.”
iOS 4 Gold Master Build for iPhone 3GS Officially Jailbroken

It’s pretty much been less than one day since Apple officially released its iOS 4 Gold Master build, and the release candidate for the iPhone 3GS has already been jailbroken. The Pwnage tool has been released by msft.guy, who fixed the blacksn0w unlock for the iPhone 3.1.3 05.11.07 baseband a while ago. The best part is that you can jailbreak your iPhone 3GS, and still keep your baseband intact. That way, users can still unlock their devices using ultrasn0w or blacksn0w.
Do take into account that you should jailbreak your device only if you know what you’re doing. Erictric or any of its affiliated entities are not responsible for bricked or broken devices. Additionally, the iPhone Dev Team has promised to release the official PwnageTool 4.0 sometime this month.
However, if you’re brave and advance enough to know what you’re doing the iOS 4 GM bundle by msft.guy is available for download here.

iPhone 3GS Now Only $99

With the unveiling of the spanking brand new iPhone 4 came the announcement that the iPhone 3GS will now sell for only $99 after a two-year contract with AT&T. Also, the iPhone 3GS will just be available in an 8GB version and in color black only from now on. Unfortunately, this means that the now outdated iPhone 3G has been officially discontinued.
Luckily, AT&T is said to have 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS units in stock. The company is selling them for $150 and $200 respectively “while supplies last.” Those interested in a high capacity iPhone 3GS better move now, or they will be sorry later. Of course, the iPhone 4, which is much better, will be available.
Will you buy the iPhone 3GS for $99 or are you getting the new iPhone 4?
AT&T No Longer Selling 8GB iPhone 3G

We knew this day would come sooner or later. We just didn’t expect it to be this soon. Who are we kidding? Yes, we expected AT&T to stop selling the 8GB iPhone 3G completely this soon. As a matter of fact, we expected this to happen ever since Apple stopped selling the device on its online store over a week ago. The fact that Apple will announce, and probably release, the next generation iPhone on June 7 didn’t help the grim fate of the poor 8GB iPhone 3G.
The news come from an internal AT&T memo, which you can see after the break.
AT&T/Apple Offering iPhone Insurance Starting June 6th
Beginning on the 6th of June, AT&T and Apple will begin offering a new service dubbed “MobileProtect”. Run by Asurion, the service will allow consumers to purchase an insurance package for their beloved devices, protecting them in the event tragedy strikes.
Rates start at a reasonable $13.99 per month, and will be available for purchasing within Apple’s App Store. Interestingly, the charges will be deducted directly from the card you use with iTunes, excluding AT&T somewhat.
Deductibles start at $99 for the 8GB iPhone 3G to $199 for the 32GB iPhone 3GS. A 32GB iPhone 3GS deductible will run you a whopping $699 if not on a contract. The user is required to enroll with MobileProtect within 30 days of purchasing their device.
What say you — is it worth it?
