New Apple Patent Shows Off What Could Be The iMac Touch
A recently filed Apple patent reveals what could possibly be an iMac Touch — a desktop computer that could essentially fold down to become a touch-sensitive tablet.
Sensors on the system’s hinge would convert the desktop from keyboard and mouse input in the upright position to touch-input required in the lay-down flat position.
Certainly, it’s an interesting concept. If in fact Apple is planning to implement this into their iMacs, we wouldn’t expect to see it for quite a while.
We’ll keep you updated.
Apple Debuts New iMacs, Magic TrackPad
Well, it would appear as if Apple has refreshed their iMac line this morning, along with including some nifty other products. Here’s what we know: both the 21.5-inch and the 27-inch iMacs have been given some new processors, with customers having the option to choose their 21.5-incher with either a 3.06 GHz or 3.20 GHz Core i3 processor. As far as the 27-inch model goes, the all-in-one computer will be available in 2.8 GHz Core i5 quad-core configuration, or a 3.20 GHz Core i3 configuration.
Both systems come stock with a whopping 4GB of RAM, and a generous 500GB hard disk drive. But that’s not all that was debuted today.
Cupertino also took it upon themselves to released the fabled Magic TrackPad. According to Apple, “Magic Trackpad gives you a whole new way to control what’s on your Mac desktop computer. When you perform gestures, you actually interact with what’s on your screen. You feel closer to your content, and moving around feels completely natural. Swiping through pages on screen is just like flipping through pages in a magazine, and inertial scrolling senses the momentum in your fingers as you move up and down a page.”
Apple to Launch New iMacs, Mac Pros, and 27-Inch Cinema Displays Tomorrow?

During the past few months, we have been hearing rumors that Apple is planning introduce a new 27-inch Cinema Display along with updated Mac Pros and refreshed iMac computers. The rumors have intensified this month. As a matter of fact, Apple is said to launch the new iMacs, Mac Pros, and 27-inch Cinema Displays as soon as tomorrow, according to John Gruber from Daring Fireball.
Additionally, Gruber states that there’s a “doubly-hypothetical” chance that Apple could even release the so-called Magic TrackPad, which was approved by the FCC very recently. At this point, all that’s left to do is wait patiently, and see if indeed new and updated products are released tomorrow.
iMac Inventory Going Down Amid Line Refresh

It appears that Cupertino-based Apple has begun warning some of its distributors to expect a temporary iMac shortage, indicating that the company is preparing itself for the launch of refreshed versions of its popular desktop computers. AppleInsider reports that a “source familiar with the matter” has stated that Apple has advised many of its third-party retail partners not to expect new shipments of its 21.5-inch, 3.06GHz iMac. Additionally, Apple is said to be suggesting to distributors to keep their iMac inventories as low as possible, and to sell as many units of the existing version as possible.
The last time the iMac line of computers was refreshed was in October of 2009. Recent rumors suggest that the new wave of iMac computers will be updated with USB 3.0 support and faster FireWire interfaces along with new faster processors and other enhancements.
Apple Asks Japanese Online Retailers to Stop Selling Their Products

Cupertino-based Apple has reportedly been asking Japanese online retailers to discontinue the sale of various Apple products, including the company’s ever-so-famous iPod and iMac lines, reports TUAW [via Nikkei].
One such company who will be complying with Apple’s demands is Yodobashi Camera Company, who doesn’t exactly know why Apple has requested the cessation of sales when it comes to their products online, though the likeliest assumption appears to be Apple’s prevention of an all-out price war between retailers. Yodobashi — like other retailers — will continue to sell Apple products at retail locations, however.
Naturally, Apple has not provided any official comment on the matter, and we’re not aware as to whether or not Apple’s request to stop online sales of their products in Japan is permanent.
Apple’s 27-Inch iMac Shipment Times Improve

Back in January, Apple was delaying 27-inch iMac shipments by a whopping three weeks over display issues and what Apple claims to be “high demand” of the $2,000 machine. This, of course, outraged potential customers — perhaps to a point in which they did not get the computer at all.
Now, it appears as if Apple has reduced the shipment times from a few weeks, to 5-7 days, as the company continues to build up inventory of the “what-should-be-fixed” display issues so many consumers have been complaining about.
Whether or not the shipment times will continue to improve is anyone’s guess, but 5-7 business days isn’t so bad — not nearly as much as three weeks, anyway.

More Evidence That New MacBook Pros Are on The Way

For quite a few days now, we have been reporting and speculating on the imminent launch of new MacBook Pro models. There’s been a few rumors and even some evidence suggesting a refresh of MacBook Pros is pretty close. Today, we bring more evidence to the table. As you can see in the image above, it’s another dummy Apple SKU from a Canadian Best Buy. The photo was sent to Gizmodo, who was told by the tipster that he also saw “fully-speced high end iMacs in inventory that were not in stores yet.”
So we could not only be seeing new MacBook Pros soon, but new iMacs as well. While there’s no way to confirm the legitimacy of the image and the claims, it’s always fun to get our hopes up, isn’t it? Hopefully, Apple doesn’t disappoint and releases the new products soon.
Are we there yet?
Microsoft Considers Office for iPad

In a recent private demonstration of the new Office for Mac 2011 suite, a Microsoft official told T3 that the Redmond-based company is “looking at” perhaps releasing a version of Office for Mac for the new Apple iPad. Though nothing has yet been confirmed.
Microsoft Senior Product manager Mike Tedesco said the following when T3 asked about Office for the iPad :
“Yeah, it’s something that we’re looking at. Obviously the announcement [of the iPad] is really fresh and there’s nothing to announce or nothing that I can talk to you about today. We’ve had tablet technology forever and both Windows 7 and Windows Vista automatically detect that and you can be running your Office on there.”
It won’t be an easy decision to make, considering the company has endorsed the HP Slate, which was unveiled during a Microsoft keynote at CES 2010 back in January. If anything, the HP Slate might be getting a touchscreen-tablet version of Office before the Apple iPad does.
We’ll keep following this story closely and see how it turns out.
Apple: 27-Inch iMac Display Issues ‘Resolved’

We’ve been closely following the reported issues with 27-inch Apple iMac computers for weeks now, and today we’re learning something quite surprising. According to Apple, the display issues which have plagued so many users of the gargantuan device are ‘resolved’, according to The Telegraph.
The purported resolution has come in the form of two firmware updates, update TS3207 — which claims to address certain display flickering issue. The second update, labeled DL984, updates the ATI Radeon HD 4670 and 4850 graphics card firmware.
