Apple’s 27-Inch iMac Shipment Times Improve

February 18th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Technology

Apple iMac Buy Page

Back in January, Apple was delaying 27-inch iMac shipments by a whopping three weeks over display issues and what Apple claims to be “high demand” of the $2,000 machine. This, of course, outraged potential customers — perhaps to a point in which they did not get the computer at all.

Now, it appears as if Apple has reduced the shipment times from a few weeks, to 5-7 days, as the company continues to build up inventory of the “what-should-be-fixed” display issues so many consumers have been complaining about.

Whether or not the shipment times will continue to improve is anyone’s guess, but 5-7 business days isn’t so bad — not nearly as much as three weeks, anyway.

More Evidence That New MacBook Pros Are on The Way

February 17th, 2010 3 Comments   Posted in Technology

For quite a few days now, we have been reporting and speculating on the imminent launch of new MacBook Pro models. There’s been a few rumors and even some evidence suggesting a refresh of MacBook Pros is pretty close. Today, we bring more evidence to the table. As you can see in the image above, it’s another dummy Apple SKU from a Canadian Best Buy. The photo was sent to Gizmodo, who was told by the tipster that he also saw “fully-speced high end iMacs in inventory that were not in stores yet.”

So we could not only be seeing new MacBook Pros soon, but new iMacs as well. While there’s no way to confirm the legitimacy of the image and the claims, it’s always fun to get our hopes up, isn’t it? Hopefully, Apple doesn’t disappoint and releases the new products soon.

Are we there yet?

Microsoft Considers Office for iPad

February 12th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Technology

In a recent private demonstration of the new Office for Mac 2011 suite, a Microsoft official told T3 that the Redmond-based company is “looking at” perhaps releasing a version of Office for Mac for the new Apple iPad. Though nothing has yet been confirmed.

Microsoft Senior Product manager Mike Tedesco said the following when T3 asked about Office for the iPad :

“Yeah, it’s something that we’re looking at. Obviously the announcement [of the iPad] is really fresh and there’s nothing to announce or nothing that I can talk to you about today. We’ve had tablet technology forever and both Windows 7 and Windows Vista automatically detect that and you can be running your Office on there.”

It won’t be an easy decision to make, considering the company has endorsed the HP Slate, which was unveiled during a Microsoft keynote at CES 2010 back in January. If anything, the HP Slate might be getting a touchscreen-tablet version of Office before the Apple iPad does.

We’ll keep following this story closely and see how it turns out.

Apple Giving 15% Cash Back to Customers With Broken 27″ iMacs

February 4th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Miscellaneous

Apple is said to start giving customers who own broken 27-inch iMacs a long overdue money incentive for being good sports. According to Gizmodo, U.S. and U.K. customers will receive 15% of what they paid for the gigantic computers with busted screens. Basically, the refund is the equivalent of  the “tax and shipping” fees paid at checkout.

What this means is that if you take your broken iMac to a nearby Apple Store, you are bound to get up to $300 from the $2,000 you originally paid. Customers with no Apple Stores nearby have to ship their broken computers to Apple at their own cost. So the refund they receive might not be as high as if you just return the iMac directly to a retail store. More »

February 3rd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Technology

Contrary to the report we published on February 1st indicating that Apple had officially stopped production of the 27-inch iMac computers as a result of chronic display issues, Apple has come out and refuted the report, noting that production of the gargantuan all-in-one is still in production.

In effort to calm the nerves of those plagued with yellow-tinted screens, Apple released a simple display firmware update just yesterday. Whether or not that’s helped current users is yet to be known. More »

Apple Releases New Display Firmware Update for 27-Inch iMacs

February 1st, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Technology

Earlier today, we reported that due to display and performance issues Apple had allegedly halted production of its 27-inch iMacs until a solution was found. Now, we learn that Apple has released a new firmware update to try to fix the display issues for existing users of the machine. This becomes the second firmware update aimed toward fixing the screen issues. If you remember well, Apple previously released a graphic firmware update on December 21, 2009. Unfortunately, most users did not see an improvement and the display issues only got worse. More »

Apple Internally Recognizes 27-Inch iMac Display Issues, Does Nothing About It

January 29th, 2010 2 Comments   Posted in Technology

It should probably come as no surprise when we say that certain 27-inch Apple iMacs are having display issues. These issues have been reported virtually since the computer made its debut in late 2009 — and Apple’s remained somewhat quiet with regard to the issue — at least to the public.

But Apple has recognized and made the Apple technical support team aware of the issue via an internal memo as of recent (pictured). More »
