Baidu.com to Install Mobile Search App on Many Mobile Handsets
You may have heard of Baidu.com before. It’s essentially China’s equivalent to Google. The website currently takes position 9 on the most popular sites in the world (according to Alexa charts), and ranks in unsurprisingly at the number one position in China.
But the search engine is certainly looking to expand into the hands of more users — literally. Baidu has wrapped up deals with top handset manufacturers in China to pre-install the application on mobile devices. No word on when we’ll be seeing finalized versions of the app in the hands of consumers.
The application is currently in beta, and is the “most important product in Baidu’s mobile strategy,” said a Baidu representative in an e-mail Friday night to PC World.
More on this as we get it.
Google Places Giant Eclair Next to Giant Android Robot

As many of you might know, there’s a giant Android robot at the GooglePlex’s front lawn. Google nicknames its Android OS upgrades after pastries. So Far, Android has been upgraded to Cupcake [Android OS 1.5] and Donut [Android OS 1.6]. Google commemorated the release of those upgrades by placing giant sculptures of a cupcake and a donut next to the Android robot. The latest pastry sculpture to join the Android robot and its giant sweeties is a delicious giant Eclair.
What the giant eclair could mean is that Android OS 2.0, codenamed Eclair, could be released very soon. You see, after Google unveiled the giant Donut back in September, the dev version of Android OS 1.6 was released a few days later. Nothing is concrete though. Our advice: don’t hold your breath, as rumor has it that Eclair won’t be released until next year. The next upgrade is said to be nicknamed “Flan.”
I think it’s pretty funny and cool that Google takes time to do this kind of stuff. Pretty soon they’ll have a complete giant bakery on their lawn.
T-Mobile Decides to Stop Forcing Customers Into Paperless Billing
Last month, mobile giant T-Mobile thought it would be a genius idea to force customers to decide between paperless billing, or paper billing at a charge. Of course, this didn’t go well at all with T-Mobile customers, and so, T-Mobile has decided to retract that procedure — at least for now.
The following statement came from T-Mobile on Saturday, September 12th: More »
Microsoft Office Web To Be Available On Mobile Devices
Microsoft has recently confirmed that it’s new suite of Office apps to be offered via the cloud will also be available for mobile devices. Of course, information is limited on this, but this is what the Washington-based software giant had to say from a Boy Genius Report:
“Mobile browsers will be supported for Office Web applications. We are still in early phases of development and will share additional details around specific browsers and functionality at a later date.”
Let the games begin.
