Manual Update to FRG22D Build of Android 2.2 for Motorola Droid Now Available

Android 2.2 Froyo Build FRG22D

This morning, Verizon Wireless began updating the original Motorola Droid to the FRG22D build of Android 2.2 [Froyo], which allows the device to download Adobe Flash 10.1 from Android Market. However, as with any other updates, the roll out is gradual. That means that not all Motorola Droid owners will receive Android 2.2 [Froyo] Build FRG22D over the air today.

Luckily, the folks over at Android Forums have found the original file on the Google Servers, which means that those not willing to wait until Verizon Wireless pushes the update to their Motorola Droid units can manually update their devices now.

Make you way past the break to see the full instructions.

Motorola Droid Android 2.2 FroyoAt last! Verizon Wireless has confirmed that they have commenced the mass over-the-air push of an update which will put Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1 in the Android Market, making it available for download.

“Verizon Wireless has begun pushing an update  today to the DROID by Motorola (introduced November 2009) that will  allow customers to download Adobe Flash 10.1 via Android Market. Flash Player 10.1 provides access to millions of sites  with rich content including animations, casual games, videos, rich internet  applications, audio and much more.”

Verizon Wireless Intranet Flash Player 10.1 Moto Droid

Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based Verizon Wireless will begin distributing build FRG22D of Android 2.2 [Froyo] over the air [OTA] for the original Motorola Droid as soon as tomorrow, according to an image of the Verizon Wireless intranet obtained by Droid Life. The OTA update, which will be sized at 1.6MB, will finally allow Motorola Droid owners to download the official version of Flash Player 10.1 from the Android Market. It will also contain a few security improvements.

Build FRG22D of Android 2.2 appears to be only a variation of the original FRG22 build, which was spotted a couple of weeks ago.

Already, the official release notes for the Android 2.2 Build FRG22D can be found in the Motorola Droid Support Page on the Verizon Wireless website. We have posted a copy in the full post.

Verizon Wireless to Business Customers: Expect Two Android 2.2 Updates

Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Froyo

Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based Verizon Wireless has sent an email to its business customers, advising them that sometime in the coming weeks their original Motorola Droid smartphones will receive two software updates over the air [OTA]. The company states that the first OTA update will upgrade the devices to Android 2.2 [Froyo], while the second OTA update will allow users to get Adobe Flash Player 10.1 directly from the Android Market.

It’s highly believed that both OTA updates might be rolled out around August 18, which is the day Adobe Flash Player 10.1 will officially become available in the Android Market.

Here’s what the email by Verizon Wireless to business customers stated:

“A DROID update for you and your employees

DROID by Motorola – even better with Android™ 2.2 (Froyo)!
Within the next few weeks, two over the air software updates will be sent to the DROID
devices on your company’s account. The first update will bring the device operating
system to Android 2.2. The second update will enable users to download Adobe® Flash®
Player 10 for Android to the device once it is available in the Android Marketplace.”

Additionally, this might explain build FRG22 of Android 2.2 for the original Motorola Droid, which was discovered in an official Verizon Wireless document [pictured in the full post], and later leaked last week.

Adobe Demonstrates Flash Player 10.1 on New Motorola Droid 2

Adobe Flash 10.1 Motorola Droid 2

It’s becoming somewhat of a tradition for Adobe to demo its Flash 10.1 platform on many of the newest Android products. Just last month, the company demoed Flash Player 10.1 on the Motorola Droid X. Today, Adobe Group Product Marketing Manager Diana Helander offers a preview of Flash Player 10.1 on the upcoming Motorola Droid 2, which is to be released on Thursday, August 12.

As other Adobe employees have demoed before, Helander shows off the Flash Player capabilities on Flash-powered websites such as CBS, CNET, and The Sims 3.

The company also corroborates on the Adobe Featured Blogs that Flash Player 10.1 will come pre-installed on the new Motorola Droid 2 as part of the new Android 2.2 [Froyo] platform. Adobe also indicates that Flash Player 10.1 will be supported by several other smartphones such as HTC Incredible, the Samsung Galaxy S, Motorola Milestone, and Droid X in the coming weeks. You know what that means, right? The aforementioned devices will soon be upgraded to Android 2.2 [Froyo].
