Jack Dorsey’s Square Gets Demoed By Digg’s Kevin Rose

We last talked about Square late last year, and we haven’t seen much of it — until today, that is. In case you haven’t yet been enlightened, Square is a new mobile payment method system led by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey which allows any average Joe to accept credit card payments on-the-go with mobile devices with connectivity to the web, of course. In particular, we’ve only previously seen the system demoed on and iPhone back in December — but the software is expected to spread to other devices after release.

Digg’s Kevin Rose has recently demoed square in high-definition goodness for the masses. Interestingly, we have also learned that Rose is an investor in Square — a good reason he is demonstrating Square in the video after the jump. More »

Why Jack Dorsey’s Square Will Revolutionize Financial Transactions

Square-Payment-Service-roundThink about it — how many times per day do you see a person making some sort of financial transaction with a piece of plastic? Be it credit or debit (and so forth), consumers are moving further and further away from cash — and that’s just reality. And whilst we have a plethora of applications available on mobile devices to accept card payments from customers — Square truely differs.

You see, most (if not all) card transaction applications require a business merchant account  — something that’s truly a pain in the rear. What sets Square aside? Well, just sign up on their site — and you’re good to go. I mean, how difficult is that? No hassles, no fuss, just plain easy.

Then, of course, you have the matter of accessibility. “How much will the hardware cost?” You’re in luck, because Square is cheaply manufacturing the hardware, which will be distributed free of charge to Square users (the last we were informed, anyway). Better yet, it’s not limited to one device, since it plugs into an audio jack, so payments will be able to be accepted from iPhones, to BlackBerry handsets, to computers. More »

Linux Foundation Credit Card

The Linux Foundation has announced they will be launching a branded Visa Platinum credit card of its own, featuring Tux [the penguin mascot]. The card is aimed at US residents [at the moment] who want to support the advance of the OS. The Linux Foundation is a non-profit organization that seeks to help the growth of Linux. For every card that is activated, The Linux Foundation will received $50 and a percentage of every purchase made with the credit card. According to a statement by Jim Zemlin, the executive director of The Linux Foundation, “people can contribute to Linux in a variety of ways (writing code, marketing, etc.) but now have a convenient way of identifying themselves as supporters of the community by carrying Tux in their pocket.” They partnered with CardPartner to offer the card through UMB Bank.
