Twitter Introduces New Button Bookmarklet

Tweet Button Bookmarklet

Last week, San Francisco, California-based Twitter introduced its now popular Tweet Button. However, not every single website has adopted the button, which has left some hardcore Twitter users without the ability to tweet content. Not to worry, as Twitter has announced today on the Twitter Blog the introduction of its new Tweet Button Bookmarklet, which allows users to easily share links with their commentary.

To install the new Tweet Button Bookmarklet, all users have to do is visit this page, and drag the “Share on Twitter” button to the bookmark bar on any browser. That’s it. From there on, users can just click on the bookmarklet and share links. The button will automatically shorten any links, and allow users to write any comment they want.

Let us know what you think.

Facebook to Roll Out New “Like” Button

New and Old Facebook Like Button

Palo Alto, California-based Facebook has began testing new variation of its very popular “Like” button, which can be found all across the web. Currently, the company has made available the new button to select partners. The new Like button has only been slightly modified to be on par with other buttons such as that of Twitter and Google Buzz, in which the number of clicks is displayed in a separate box to the right. When the button is clicked to Like something, the number will be placed inside the box, as demonstrated in the image above.

A Facebook spokesperson has released the following statement:

“We’ve begun rolling out new variations of the Like button to make it more seamless for people to like content and share it with their friends. We’ll have additional details to share in the coming weeks.”

Twitter Launches “Tweet” Sharing Button

twitter-tweet-buttonLet’s face the facts: sharing something on Twitter isn’t exactly the quickest and simplest thing to do. Between copying a link, pasting it in a URL shortener, and copying it back into a Tweet — it’s simply too inconvenient.

Enter the “Tweet” button. Newly launched, the Tweet button will allow Twitter users to simply share a link via the page they’re currently on. According to the Twitter blog, “when you click on the Tweet Button, a Tweet box will appear — pre-populated with a shortened link that points to the item that you’re sharing.”

Facebook Introduces ‘Panic Button’ Application in The U.K.

Facebook Logo

Facebook has finally made up its mind and introduced a “Panic Button” to its services in the U.K. in partnership with the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre [CEOP]. However, don’t call it a button just yet, as the feature has been introduced as an application and/or tab rather than an actual button. The goal is to help young Facebook members easily find advised from the comfort of their profiles on how to deal with cyberbullying, hacking, viruses, mobile problems, harmful content, and sexual behavior/grooming. The application is called ClickCEOP.

Users aged 13 to 18 can click the tab on their profile to access the CEOP website, where they can find advise and make an official report to authorities in case they’re experiencing any of the aforementioned issues with other Facebook members. It’s still to be determined when young users here in the U.S. can have access to a similar feature. Do take into account that it’s possible for U.S. users to install the application on their profiles.

Facebook Now Allows Users to “Like” Comments Individually

Facebook Like Comments Feature

Thus far, Facebook users have only been able to ‘Like’ posts, status updates, news feeds, photos, and more. However, individual comments left by other folks did not receive the same treatment. That changes today, as Facebook has just announced today on The Facebook Blog that users will be able to ‘Like’ comments individually.

When a comment is ‘Liked,’ the original poster will receive a notification. Depending on privacy settings, other individuals will be able to see who actually ‘Likes’ any determined comment.

Facebook Logo

A little under two weeks ago, Erictric reported that the newly-launched Facebook “social plugins” had been adopted by over 50,000 websites across the Internet. Now, almost three weeks after Facebook launched said plugins at its F8 Developer Conference, the company informs us in an official post on the Facebook Developers Blog that more than 100,000 websites have implemented the social plugins.

Facebook goes on to state that since adopting the social plugins, referral traffic for online news publications such as The Washington Post,  ABC News, and The Globe and Mail has increased by 290%, 250%, and 80%, respectively. Additionally, other websites like IMDB, NHL.com, Dailymotion, and even Scribd have also seen a traffic increase since they incorporated the “Like” button on their sites.

New Yahoo Video Criticizes Google for Being Minimalist

Yahoo Commercial

Last year, Erictric reported that Yahoo would launch a new global marketing campaign, which would focus on promoting its services around the world. Now, according to The Wall Street Journal, the campaign didn’t yield the results expected. That’s why Yahoo is now investing $75 million to $85 million from its original $100 million budget on a new campaign, in hopes that it will increase their traffic and market share. The campaign is said to promote Yahoo on TV, billboards, and on the Internet using the following slogan: “Your favorite stuff all in one place. Make Yahoo your home page.”

With that said, a video highligting the philosophy and creativity of its “It’s You” campaign. In it Yahoo appears to criticize its more successful competitor — Google — for being minimalist and simple when it comes to its homepage. The video starts with the image of a blank search engine with just a search box and a button, which looks highly similar to Google. A voice then goes on to say that “when you look at this homepage, nothing looks back at you. You come to this place so you can leave.”

Facebook Plugins Adopted by More Than 50,000 Websites Already

Facebook Logo

It has only been one week since Facebook released its new “social plugins” at its F8 Developer Conference, and already the company is announcing on its official Developer Blog that more than 50,000 websites have adopted the new plugins. The company originally counted with the support of 75 partners including CNN and The New York Times. It wasn’t long ago that Erictric jumped on the bandwagon by integrating a “Like” button at the bottom of each article, making it easier for our readers to like any of our stories.

Facebook has made it relatively easy for any website owner to integrate any of the social plugins. The process usually involves just copying and pasting a few lines of codes. These figures are definitely nothing short of impressive, given that many users are still adjusting to the new changes. We can expect those numbers to grow exponentially in the coming weeks.

Facebook to Connect Your Interests and Information With Pages

Facebook Pages Recommending Box

Along with the introduction of new Community Pages, Facebook also announced today in the same blog post that sections like your current city, hometown, education and work, and likes and interests on your profile will now be connected or linked to their corresponding Facebook Pages. Next time you visit your Facebook profile page, a box will pop-up [pictured] with a list of pages matching your interests and information. You can then choose to either include all pages at once  or choose the pages you want to add individually.

As soon as you are done, all of your interests and other information will link to the corresponding Facebook Page. You can add more interests or connection by clicking “Like” on any Facebook Page. Facebook has replaced the “Become a Fan” button with “Like.” To remove the page from your profile, you can just click “Unlike” from the bottom left hand column of the Page, or remove from your profile by clicking on edit, selecting the page, and clicking “remove.”
