WordPress for BlackBerry Updated to Version 1.4.1

WordPress for BlackBerry 1.4.1

The WordPress application for BlackBerry has been updated to version 1.4.1, which mostly appears to focus on improving the overall experience by fixing several issues. In other words, the update — which is pretty minor — is just a maintenance release. No major features are introduced.

According to the official release notes, the new version addresses the following issues:

  • Fixed empty title issue for those blogs with “Site Title” field set to empty value.
  • Fixed an issue on the comments screen that doesn’t permit editing of comments with weird characters within URL or e-mail field.

Research In Motion Releases BlackBerry Traffic Beta

BlackBerry Traffic Beta Application

Waterloo, Ontario-based Research In Motion has released the beta version of its BlackBerry Traffic application to the public. The BlackBerry Traffic Beta application is free, and can be found in the BlackBerry App World. It allows users to view traffic conditions, obtain and share an estimated time of arrival [ETA], find out if a road is closed, and more.

RIM describes the application as follows:

“With lots of places to go, and people to see, planning to be where you need to be on time can be a challenge. Thanks to BlackBerry Traffic, you can easily plan to be where you need to be—on time.1 Get your estimated time of arrival (ETA), find out if a road is closed, or decide to take an alternate route, all ahead of time.

BlackBerry Messenger Updated to Version 5.0.1.38

BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.1.38

It has been a very long while since Waterloo, Ontario-based Research In Motion updated its popular BlackBerry Messenger application for BlackBerry smartphones. As a matter of fact, the last update — version 5.0.0.57 — was released all the way back in December 2009. Luckily, the company has made BlackBerry Messenger version 5.0.1.38 available to BlackBerry smartphone owners.

RIM originally released version 5.0.1.32 to select BlackBerry Beta Zone members.

Unfortunately, in typical RIM fashion, no changelog has been provided. Therefore, we will not be able to know what exactly is new in this new iteration of the popular instant messaging application.

WordPress Logo

WordPress for BlackBerry has been officially updated to version 1.3. Existing users should be notified as soon as they application is loaded. Additionally, users can check for the update manually. As of this writing, the new version of WordPress is not live in the BlackBerry App World, but we’re pretty sure it will be soon.

According to Automattic, the company behind the WordPress platform, the new version includes the following features:

  • Option to load more comments, not just the latest 100
  • Ability to load comments by status (all/spam/pendings)
  • You can now edit the comment details (Author Name/E-mail/URL)
  • Option to manually set the video-size when using VideoPress service
  • A much requested formatting toolbar that allows you to bold text for example

BlackBerry App World Updated to Version 1.1.0.35 [Updated]

BlackBerry App World 1.1.0.35

Research In Motion has quietly updated its BlackBerry App World application to version 1.1.0.35. As usual, there’s no changelog available. However, we believe the update just brings minor things such as a few bug fixes. The application hadn’t been actually updated since March of this year, when version 1.1.0.33 was released.

While it’s always nice to get an improved version of something, we — BlackBerry users and abusers — are quite desperately waiting for the release of BlackBerry App World 2.0, which is expected to be rolled out this year. Rumor actually had it that version 2.0 of BlackBerry App World would make its debut during or right after the WES 2010 conference. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Research In Motion Holding Exclusive BlackBerry Event on June 16

BlackBerry App World Logo

We have just received an invitation for an exclusive BlackBerry event which will take place on Wednesday, June 16 at 5:00 PM ET in New York. The event appears to be focused on the BlackBerry App World, which makes us wonder if Research In Motion will finally announce or even introduced the new BlackBerry App World 2.0.

As we learn back in April, RIM has already updated its BlackBerry App World Developer Agreement to add new features such as credit and debit card billing. Hopefully this is the even where we will see a revamped BlackBerry App World.

Research In Motion Updates BlackBerry App World Developer Agreement

BlackBerry App World Logo

Last week, Waterloo-based Research In Motion updated its BlackBerry App World Developer Agreement to include a few new features, most notably is the addition of carrier and credit card billing. This change will definitely improve the overall experience on the App World, considering that up until now the only way to pay for paid applications was through PayPal. RIM has already begun sending notifications to all its registered developers regarding the change. This is good news for the popularity of the store itself, as now the chances of carriers pushing the App World onto BlackBerry devices will increase — given that carriers will also get a cut of the profits with carrier billing.

Beta of Twitter App for BlackBerry to Be Released to The Public Tonight

Are you a Twitter user, and more importantly, a BlackBerry abuser? If your answer is yes and yes, we have great news for you. Research In Motion announced today that they will finally release the beta of the Twitter app for BlackBerry to the general public tonight at 9:00 PM Eastern Time — 6:00 PM Pacific Time. The application will be made available to users around the world in the Test Center on the BlackBerry App World.

RIM originally released a preview of the application to a few lucky users back in February 11. Ever since, the company has been tweaking and improving the application based on feedback by those who were invited to try out the application. RIM originally promised to release the application on March 31. The company retracted the announcement a few days later, stating that no launch date had been chosen. However, this public release comes just eight days after the original launch day, which is not bad at all.

Make your way past the break to read the full changelog.
