Hulu has quickly become one of the largest video streaming site on the net, and could soon debut a subscription service, according to News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch and Jeff Zucker, the CEO of NBC Universal. Though, apparently “no decisions have been made yet,” according to the two at a Goldman Sachs conference.

However, sources are confirming that Hulu has already begun beta test trials for the subscription service.

Since details on the subscription service are foggy at this point, one could assume the subscription service to include premium content and no advertisements.

Even if this does come in to effect, will people buy into it? Will people be willing to spend their money for less advertisements and some premium content (of course, assuming that’s what it is? I mean, we already pay for television service that include ads, right? I can only speak for myself, so if you’ve got an opinion — leave it in the comments.

@D: I’m pretty confident there will still be a free version. The subscription will just be premium (I mentioned the benefits above), but there will still be content as there is now. I wouldn’t worry about it.

I haven’t had cable or DSL for a long time

because at first I couldn’t really afford it and later I didn’t have time to watch it much. Now I have Hulu and Netflix. I was going to get DSL but then I spent the night out of town in a hotel room and tried to watch TV.

I couldn’t stand it. I’m too used to watching whatever I want whenever I want to watch it. And If I find a cool series and want to watch three or four episodes back to back, no problem. Going from 3 or 4 30 second commercial breaks to the endles commercials and flipping through ‘100 chanels of nothing on’ was sheer torture. If Hulu comes out with a premium service and it’s along the lines of the $10 or so a month I pay for netflix I’ll be the first one to sign up.

Of course that also depends how the proposed ides of ISPs charging by the bandwidth used shakes out. I think that we are going to see the death of satelite and cable TV in its present form within the next few years.
