Google Launches New Features for Google Translate

November 16th, 2009 Posted in Online by Bertrand

Google Translate LogoGoogle announced today on the ever so trusty Official Google Blog that they have launched three new features and a new look for Google Translate. The new features include:

  • Translate instantly: Google Translate now instantly translates your text right as you typing it.
  • Read any language: With the exception of Persian, Hebrew, and Arabic characters, you can now read all non-Latin characters as phonetically written in English by just clicking on “Show romanization.”

  • Write any language: This feature includes an input transliteration for Hindi, Arabic, and Persian that allows people to write words as they sound and it will automatically covert them to native characters after pressing the space button.

  • Text-to-speech: Pretty much self-explanatory. When translating into English, you can now hear the translations by clicking on the speaker icon.

I am impressed with the new features. They’re definitely very handy for anyone trying to find out a pronunciation of a word in non-Latin characters. Best of all, these services are all combined in one place for free. To give it a try just go to the Google Translate page and let us know your thoughts.
