Microsoft Confirming Windows 7 Launch Party Hosts

At the beginning of this month, we reported that Microsoft was inviting users to host Windows 7 launch parties. Today, Microsoft is sending a confirmation to people who have been selected to host a party. According to Microsoft, these people should expect a package with tools to host a great party. They also get online tools to organize the party and manage their guest list.

It might be newsworhy to note that many of these invites were sent on the 21st EST time, only to be sent a secondary email on the 22nd EST time confirming “Finalist” status, meaning your application is approved, but you may not necessaril be a host – therefore no swag!
It’s very confusing and to add to this the House Party website which this event Is beig planned through is having server issues, which is frustrating in it’s own way.
I would assume it’s due to the high volume of users attempting to access the site, excited about their “Host” status (which most likely is erroneous).
10s of thousands of registered users being told their hosts when in reality only a fraction are finalists, and an even smaller fraction elligible for selection after.

Actually I got an email saying that I was confirmed as an official host shortly after my Finalist e-mail.
The server issues is a little frustrating though.

I got my finalist email around 7pm Pacific Time, didn’t see it until 11pm. But I got in and am a confirmed Host!! Part of the swag is the “signature edition” (does bill sign it, i wonder?) of Windows 7 Ultimate. can’t wait to see what the other party favors are!

Ooh, a signed copy by Bill would be darned cool. I also saw a story where some hosts will win new PCs as well. I am a host but I never heard mention of the PCs until I saw this article: http://www.informationweek.com/news/windows/operatingsystems/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=220100635

I believe you can track the progress of your package online at the Win 7 Launch Party website where you created your acccount to apply for the event.
