One Hundred Million Facebook Pages Leaked On Torrent Tracker

identity-theft-stockHello, privacy. According to Thinq, hacker Ron Bowes has managed to create a specialized link crawling application that allowed him to gather over 171 million Facebook pages in a 2.8GB file[s]. The millions of users, who were listed on Facebook’s open access directory, have not modified their page settings to make them unavailable to search engines.

The file reveals the URL to each users’ profile page, home addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, and other information publicly revealed by users.

Despite the shock some may get with the above news, there’s nothing illegal going on here. Bowes has quite simply gathered public information in one place. In other words, there’s nothing you can do about it.  If your Facebook profile is still wide open, you may want to consider modifying your privacy settings, however.
