Bing Turns One, Traffic Levels Not Growing

It’s difficult to believe that it’s been over one year since the Microsoft Bing search (or “decision”) engine made its public debut. Of course, like any other search engine, Microsoft’s goal with Bing has been to make it the go-to search engine, and perhaps make it more popular than Yahoo’s offering, and dare we say it — Google.

Sadly, the search market’s a tough place, and Bing hasn’t surpassed Yahoo or Google in terms of traffic levels. The website, however, is still very popular. According to Compete.com, Bing is currently the 10th most visited website in the United States.

Interestingly, when graphed using Compete, you can see that Bing’s traffic levels haven’t grown much at all since launch. As a matter of fact, traffic to the website has been decreasing ever so minutely (see appended chart).

In defense of Bing, however, Compete is not entirely accurate.

On the contrary, Alexa analytics places Bing as the 24th most-visited website worldwide, and the 16th most-visited website in the United States. Like Compete, Alexa drew out a similar chart with regard to traffic levels:

Certainly, it’s going to be interesting to see where things happen from this point onward. As with any website hoping to grow, patience is key.

We shall return to these figures in an update post in the months ahead.
