Users Report Touchscreen Issues on The Nexus One for AT&T

Another carrier, another issue. The AT&T version of the Nexus One hasn’t been out for long, and we are already getting reports from a few frustrated users who are having issues with the device’s touchscreen. Apparently, the touchscreen is unresponsive sometimes. Also, when you press a key to a letter, a unrequested symbol is entered instead. You can see a poor person tapping and tapping trying to input the letter ‘S’ with no avail in the video after the break.
Let us know if you are having any issues with the touchscreen of your AT&T version of the Nexus One.

he is curling his hand and touching the bottom right corner of the screen… user error wow…
I just read something on a google forum that might be helpful for ATT version of N1, a user must change account type to resolve any disruptions, read below for a comment made by an att rep.
“In review of your account, I have found that we show your line as still using the Apple iPhone. Our records show that your SIM card was swapped multiple times between the IMEI you provided and the iPhone yesterday.
Unfortunately, the iPhone data plan is not compatible with any other device and the Smartphone Data plan (required for the HTC device) is not compatible with the iPhone.
The iPhone Data plan includes visual voicemail; therefore, I did not update your account to the HTC device as this would require the removal of the iPhone data plan and your voicemail.”
Dude,
Why didn’t you try to type with your index finger straight on without using your thumb? I have an iPhone 3GS and using the thumb and sometimes you get errors typing because you are reaching across the touchscreen with your thumb. Try it with you index finger and report back.
@George: The video was pulled from YouTube. We have no affiliation with who’s in the video.
@Eric:
Here’s what you said in your article:
“and we are already getting reports from a few frustrated users who are having issues with the device’s touchscreen”
That sounds like you have been contacted from them yourself. I definitely would be a little sceptical about a youtube video where they mention that the nexus one sucks and the iPhone took the video. If you type a search on “iphone sucks” you get a get a lot of hits too.
Oh, I’m no Nexus One fanboy as I own the iPhone 3GS too.
I’ve been using the AT&T version of nexus one for a week now with not a single issue. Some people just can’t handle a phone on the market that’s better than their beloved Iphone.
I used and Iphone for quite some time until last week and I can tell you for sure that it does not even come close to the speed and responsiveness of the nexus one. Goodbye Apple…
guys this has NOTHING to do with user error.
I purchases the Nexus One for Tmobile and it has exactly the same issue. I don’t care whether it’s a hardware issue or a software issue – google has known about this issue since january and has done absolutely diddly squat other than to say that they are looking at the issue. Yeah, while they’re looking at the issue, they released it on AT&T, sprint, and verison. Guess what guys, this will be Google’s downfall.
I have since returned the phone. I’m still waiting for the refund. Meanwhile I ordered an iphone 3gs. Actually, I accidentally ordered two iphones from the website, recieved both, sent one back, and I already have a refund from Apple. Still waiting on HTC.
After this experience, I don’t care what the specs of the next android phones will be. Apple will release something comparable and I’ll stick with a company that doesen’t leave me high and dry when they screw up.
The multi-touch sensors get confused. It’s a hardware issue.
The only way i can correct it is to turn the screen off, and back on.. unlock the phone, and continue typing.
I’m going to probably just ebay the phone and get a EVO when it launches, assuming that the mutli-touch isn’t the same sensor as the nexus.
Droid users don’t have the same problem as it has a different multi-touch sensor. It’s very prevalent in games as well.
