Google Introduces Smart Rescheduler For Google Calendar

Google announced today on its Official Gmail Blog the introduction of a new experimental service called Smart Rescheduler to its Google Calendar Labs. The new feature is like having a personal assistant, given that it automatically attempts to schedule an event based on attendees, schedule complexity, conference rooms, and time zones. The service utilizes ranking algorithms to come up with a list of the best dates and times for the event.

To start using the service, all you have to do is enable it from the Labs section. Once active, the service will appear on the right part of the screen. From there, you can select and event that you have previously entered and click on “Find a new time.” Smart Rescheduler checks the calendar of the attendees and takes into account all the aforementioned factors to display a list of the most relevant results. You can then just easily choose the date and time that you want.

Google Software Engineer David Marmaros explains:

“By investigating the calendars others have shared with you, Google Calendar can make some educated guesses about how easy it might be to reschedule a conflicting meeting and even find you a replacement conference room nearby. This process is 100% automated — no Google employees are doing any work behind the scenes. You can refine the results by marking people as optional, changing the meeting duration, ignoring certain conflicts, or specifying the earliest and latest times you’ll accept. The results will immediately update to reflect your new requirements.”

We’ve also learn that Smart Rescheduler can even reserve a new conference room based on information and details about the original room. Google wants users to submit their ideas and feedback regarding the new service on the Google Calendar Forums.
