It was almost six months ago that Opera Mini 5 Beta was officially released. However, the beta of the mini browser was only made available for BlackBerry and Nokia smartphones. As time has gone by, Opera Software has released support for more and more mobile platforms including other Java-enabled phones and Windows Mobile. Fast forward approximately 5 months and 25 days, and Opera Mini 5 Beta finally becomes available for the Android platform.
Opera Mini 5 Beta for Android is definitely a big improvement from the previous Opera Mini 4, as it brings a few new much-appreciated features to the very popular mobile platform. The new features for the Android platform include tabbed browsing, Speed Dial, Password Manager, and Opera Link, which automatically syncs bookmarks and ‘Speed Dial’ items between your handset and computer [if you use the desktop version though]. The new browser also brings optimized support for touchscreen phones.
Android users looking to upgrade to the new version of Opera Mini or to replace their default browser can now download Opera Mini 5 Beta from the Android Market or by visiting m.opera.com/next on their handsets.
