Scribd Turns Three Years Old

Popular online document-sharing website Scribd is turning three years old this month. The website originally came out of beta on March 6, 2007, allowing users to upload all kinds of text-documents in various formats including PDF, TXT, DOC, PPT, XLS, PS, and more. Uploaded documents can be shared in different ways such as embedding them on other websites, emailing them to friends, and even through social-networking websites. Additionally, the website allows readers to comment, tag, and even rate uploaded documents.

The website currently hosts more than 10 million documents, with approximately more than 50,000 documents uploaded in a daily basis. Scribd receives more than 50 million visitors from around the world per month [source].

To commemorate its birthday, the company has slightly changed its interface design. The most noticeable change is in its logo [pictured]. Other changes include a faster document search that supports about 1.4 million searches per day, addition of collection, and the ability to search documents based on categories or tending files. Scribd also recently launched a new sharing feature that allows users to send Scribd-hosted document to various mobile devices that range from ebook readers to smartphones.

Happy birthday, Scribd!
