YouTube and Kia Motors Set Up Superbowl XLIV Advertisement Rating Channel

YouTube announced the official opening of their Adblitz football-related advertising channel late last night, on the eve of the biggest game in sports — the Superbowl. The channel, according to YouTube, allows for viewers of the big game (ahem, everyone) to vote for their favorite advertisements during the broadcast and afterwards, as well.

The channel, sponsored by Kia Motors, is working very closely with Superbowl advertisers to get their TV spots up as quickly as possible after they air on television.

The commercial which gets the most votes will be featured on YouTube’s home page on February 18th, 2010.

While it’s certainly fun to vote on which commercial is the best, it’s also a spectacular marketing idea. Putting on this contest of sorts allows for viewers to engage and pay more attention to the advertisements they’re seeing — exactly what the advertisers are looking for.

Advertisers pay as much as $3 million USD for a 30-second advertisement, with ad prices varying depending on when during the broadcast they air.

Just yesterday evening we noted that Google may themselves be advertising during the big game. A tweet sent out by Google CEO Eric Schmidt hinted toward a 3rd-quarter advertisement.
