Facebook Begins Rolling Out New Photo Uploader

Wow! It looks like Facebook is on a roll. In the past couple of days, the social networking site started rolling out its new homepage interface to 80 million members, it turned 6 years old yesterday, it probably welcomed its 400 millionth member already, it’s rumored to be working on a webmail service, and they just announced on the Facebook Blog an improved photo uploader.

According to the post, there are 2.5 billion photos uploaded to Facebook every month. Alas, the photo-uploading experience is not so great with the current outdated method. For starters, it’s very slow and has many technical issues. Additionally, the company says that many people struggle and were confused by the installation method. That’s why in the next few weeks, they will be gradually rolling out a new browser plugin, which will ease the way you upload photos.

The very first time you use the new photo uploader, you’ll be asked to install a new Facebook plugin. Once installed, it will display a window or dialogue box, where you can easily navigate through the different folders on your computer and select the photos you want to upload. “Once you have started your upload, you’ll discover another feature, asynchronous uploading, that allows you to navigate away from the upload page, or even away from Facebook completely, while your photos continue to upload in the background,” says a Facebook engineer. You’ll receive a notification when the upload process is over.

The new uploader definitely promises a better experience, and we can’t wait to see it. Of course, you won’t be bound to use this new plugin, as there plenty of ways and apps that you can use to upload photos already. Let us know what you think about all these new changes rolling out on Facebook.

I really dislike this new uploader. It’s way to slow and if you have a lot of pictures in one folder, it can take forever to get through them to find the one you want to add.
