At the beginning of the year, we reported that Apple added 30-second preview clips of various songs on what it looks to be an early in-browser version of iTunes called iTunes Preview. As we mentioned at the time of our first post about iTunes Preview, the feature was originally launched back in November 2009 to allow users to get an idea of all the different content available on iTunes.
It hasn’t been until this year that iTunes Preview is being quietly revamped with real “previews” of all the content on iTunes. Just like the 30-second song clips, the Cupertino-based company is now allowing users to preview iPhone/iPod Touch apps using iTunes Preview from the comfort of their browser.
When you open a link to an iPhone/iPod Touch app now [example], it’ll open in your browser instead of being redirected to the iTunes desktop program. The page contains everything you need to know about the app including price, description, screenshots, rating, logo, developer, size, et cetera. Similar to the way BlackBerry apps are available in an online version of the BlackBerry App World.
You can check out the feature on the iTunes webpage. It is definitely a fun feature. iTunes preview is definitely looking like it’s paving the way to a future version of iTunes on the cloud. We’re excited to find out what Apple is going to allow users to preview next.
