The popular open-source WordPress app for BlackBerry has reached a major milestone. It has been finally updated to version 1.0, which we believe is no longer beta stage. The public beta of WordPress for BlackBerry was originally released in July 2009 by Automattic. Ever since, the company has been releasing a great number of updates to fix many bugs and to bring new features to the app.
The new WordPress 1.0 for BlackBerry was promised back in November 2009, and has been awaited by most BlackBerry owners who also use WordPress. According to Automattic VP of Media Services Raanan Bar-Cohen, the new WordPress 1.0 for BlackBerry brings the following features:
- Reworked UI layout for the main view, blog view, and media view
- Ability to upload videos from your media library
- New option to set media file properties (filename, caption, title, and position)
- Created a new file browser that resembles the native BlackBerry file browser
- Big improvements in the speed at which you can view and manage comments
- Lots of optimizations for uploading photos and videos using base64 encoding
- Indonesian language support
- Improved French language support
In addition to reaching version 1.0, WordPress for BlackBerry is now officially available for download in the BlackBerry App World for free. You can download the application directly from your device by going to the native App World application by visiting blackberry.wordpress.org/install from your BlackBerry browser, or if you have WordPress already installed, you can just check for updates.
Update: Automattic has released an official demo video of the application. Check it out below.
