Final Version of Firefox Mobile Now Available for Maemo

At the beginning of this month, we reported that Mozilla made available its release candidate 2 version of Firefox Mobile, also known as Fennec, for the Maemo platform. Yesterday, Firefox Mobile reached a new milestone, as its final [stable] version 1.0 was officially released for Maemo-powered devices such as the Nokia N900. This is great news for all you who have been waiting quite a while for the final version.
Now, if you downloaded the RC2 version earlier this month, you will not see much of a difference with this final release. Though according to The Mozilla Blog, Firefox Mobile 1.0 offers a lot of great features similar to those offered by the desktop version of Firefox. - Awesome Bar – Go to your favorite sites in just a couple of keystrokes with intelligent and personalized searching
- Weave Sync – Sync your Firefox tabs, history, bookmarks and passwords between your desktop and mobile device for a seamless browsing experience
- Add-ons – Customize your Firefox by adding small pieces of functionality, like games and news readers, that help make the mobile Web browser your own
- Location-Aware Browsing – Get maps and information relevant to your location
- Tabbed browsing – View open tabs as thumbnails to easily identify and select the Web page you’d like to go to next
- Safe Browsing – Get an Instant Web Site ID and easily access and edit security settings
- Available in more than 30 languages and counting
To download Firefox on your Nokia N900, visit Firefox.com/Mobile. More mobile operating systems are expected to be supported in the near future. As of currently, it’s said that Firefox Mobile should make its way to Android within a month or two.
