Apple Tablet May Splash On To AT&T and Verizon Wireless

A Fox News report published early today notes the possibility that there may two versions of the fabled Apple Tablet — one built for AT&T’s GSM network, and another for Verizon Wireless’ CDMA network. The information conveniently comes from two sources — one from AT&T, and another from Verizon.

Apple is reportedly in last-minute talks with the two carriers to establish some type of agreement to allow the Apple Tablet device to come with some sort of subsidy after its release (in which no date has been set). Of course, it is suspected that customers who would rather not sign two years of their life away with a wireless carrier for the sake of getting a discount on the purchase price and having internet connectivity everywhere will be able to get a tablet much like they would an iPod Touch — with Wi-Fi access only.

Additional details in the report note that in addition to Verizon Wireless discussing final plans for the Tablet on their network, discussions have already commenced to bring the next generation iPhone, already dubbed the iPhone 4G, to Verizon’s CDMA network some time in late Spring to early Summer.

It is considered perfectly normal for Apple to be discussing subsidizing their “latest creation” so late in the game, especially so as to prevent any leaks. But then again, we’ve been publishing reports based on leaks for months now, and Apple has quickly learned they can never keep something a secret for too long.

We’re sure to hear more about the tablet over the next few days, and certainly next Wednesday. Get ready for the internet to be a busier place.
