Most Motorola Devices Will Be Multitouch Enabled From Now On

Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha was recently interviewed by Laptop Magazine. One of the questions posed was about the multitouch capabilities of a lot of Android phones. More specifically, whether or not future Motorola devices will support such feature. A question which Jha answered by saying:

“I think you will see us deliver multitouch in the majority of our devices going forward. There’s a complex set of factors, not all of them technical. But I think you’ll see us being proactive on multitouch because the user feedback on multitouch is very good.”

Multitouch has become one of the most sought-after features in touchscreen devices nowadays. Unfortunately, due to legal patent issues in the United States, many companies decide to just turn off the feature for US users, while the rest of users around the world are able to enjoy the same devices with multitouch capabilities. For example, the Motorola Droid’s multitouch capabilities were disabled, while they were enabled on its European counterpart, the Motorola Milestone. Hence the “[t]here’s a complex set of factors, not all of them technical” part in Jha’s answer.

One thing that it’s not specified is if Motorola plans to deploy all of its future multitouch devices outside the US, or if they will come up with their own multitouch technology to be able to release their products here in the United States.

Droid DOES have multitoch. A browser app called ‘xScope’ does that since last Nov. see youtube:

It is not disabled. Just most apps don’t take advantage of that. People, do some research first.

I think you misinterpreted the article. I didn’t say Droid does not support multitouch. I know it does [I wouldn't make a living as a blogger, if I didn't research first]. The feature has just been “turned off” for US users due to patent issues.

From an official point of view, the feature has been disabled.
