Google Gains U.S. Search Market Share Whilst Bing/Yahoo Lose

It appears as if Google has gained search market share in the United States last month (December 2009) to a whopping 67.3%, according to data released today by Nielsen. That’s nearly 2% higher than Google’s market share in the U.S. back in November 2009, at 65.4%.

And while Google seems to be doing quite well when it comes to online searches, both Yahoo and Bing have seen declines in U.S. search market share from November to December. Yahoo’s market share dipped from 15.3% to 14.4%, and Bing’s market share from 10.7% to 9.9%.

Clearly, it appears as if we have a case of “switchers.” That is to say that people are making the switch from Yahoo and Bing, to the Big G. Perhaps Bing’s outage in December has ingrained in many users’ minds that Bing is not reliable. As far as Yahoo’s dip goes, we could not even begin to speculate.
