We have been reporting stories and rumors about the Google Phone for quite a while. Now, the talks have extended to Google employees who apparently were handed the precious device today and have not resisted from telling the world about it on Twitter. According to various tweets by Google employees and friends of theirs, the Google Phone hardware will be built by HTC, it will will be unlocked, and it will run Android 2.1. Not to mention, it will be coming out in January 2010 and we might officially start hearing about it in the next few days.

Here are some of the Tweets giving us some clues of what to expect:

Google Program Manager Leslie Hawthorn tweeted:

“Stuck in mass of traffic leaving work post last all hands of 2009. ZOMG we had fireworks and we all got the new Google phone. It’s beautiful.”

Jason Howell has been tweeting quite a lot about the Google Phone. Some of his tweets include:

“…I just had my hands on the Google Phone. I feel so [privileged]!”

“The new Google Phone runs on HTC hardware. I saw it w/ Android 2.1. Homescreen has new visual enhancements like animated desktop wallpaper.”

“Supposedly we should start hearing a lot about the new Google phone over the next few days. Its slick in an HTC hero sorta way.”

“Wasn’t able to gander @ h/w specs unfortunately. Supposedly, Google employees were given tons of these phones today. unlocked.”

Lastly, a Google employee’s friend wrote the following tweet:

“A friend from Google showed me the new Android 2.1 phone from HTC coming out in Jan. A sexy beast. Like an iPhone on beautifying steroids.”

At this point an announcement should be imminent. Even better, it’s only a matter of time before someone actually does the world a favor and leaks some photos of it. Hopefully, that’s sooner than we expect.
