Google Improves Search With Two New Features

There’s absolutely no doubt that Google is all about speed. They have been tweaking their homepage and results page to help users find what they’re looking for in a faster way. Today, the company has just announced on the one and only Official Google Blog, the introduction of two new speedy features to help you with your queries.

The first one is ‘Universal search features in Google Suggest.’ While universal search features have been available on the results page for a while, now they will appear as you’re typing either above or below the Google suggestions. For example, if you would like to find out the weather of any city, in this case Brussels, you just type “weather brus” and immediately the answer will appear at the bottom of the autocomplete box.

Search Features Google Suggest

Currently the following 10 universal search features are available: weather, flight status, local time, area codes, package tracking, answers, definitions, calculator, currency and unit conversions. According to Google, more features are coming in the future.

The second new feature is an extension for the beta version of Google Chrome 4 called ’Quick Scroll.’ It’s somewhat similar to the the “find feature” triggered by Ctrl+F or CMD+F  in many browsers. Quick Scroll basically finds and scrolls directly to relevant text of your query. For example, if you do a search for “belgian waffles served by street vendors?” and click on the first result, Quick Scroll will display a black box on the bottom right corner of your browser with the appropriate text relevant to your search. Click it and Quick Scroll will take you to that part of the page where the text is.

Quick Scroll

You can find Quick Scroll in the Chrome Extensions Gallery. Be sure to let us know what you think of the new features aimed to help you save precious seconds when searching for something on Google.
