iMac.Squeaked.Com Gathers Bad iMac Stories in One Place

Think you’re alone in the whole iMac meltdown of ’09? Well — ok, it’s not really a “meltdown” as there have only been roughly 280 problems (as of this writing) so far. 280 out of how many tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands? Sure, it’s not that big of a deal. Still, if you’re tired of panning through Apple’s support forums for questions and answers regarding your freshly delivered, freshly damaged iMac, imac.squeaked.com is there to help. The site was launched a few weeks ago when Scott Pronych – a web designer based in Bedford, Nova Scotia — found that his new iMac suffered from a cracked screen in the bottom left corner. After going through the usual return process — totaling 10 days from shipment of bad unit to arrival of replacement — Scott started up imac.squeaked to give iMac users an easy place to find reported problems quickly.
As a sidenote, it’s interesting to highlight that the Core i7 equipped iMacs are the units suffering from the greatest return rates due to problems. Is it a problem with the particular i7 manufacturing process or is it more an issue with Apple’s shipping methods with these latest iMacs? Ponder away.
