Being a beta tester for an upcoming app or product has some big benefits. The most obvious of which is the fact you get to be exclusive, enjoying something that others won’t be able to experience for weeks, months, or years. Yet, it’s not all roses though. Being a beta product, glitches are to be expected and minor headaches appear from time to time. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Some nerds have tried so often to get into software betas just so they could get this digital fix before the masses and ultimately came up short for a variety of reasons. If you’re constantly drawing the short stick, RIM has got one hell of a branch for you.
BlackBerry Test Center. This new section added to App World allows anyone to access beta apps early. Some may question the move as launching unfinished products can often result in a barrage of support emails. But that’s the point. In order to make apps better, you need a large pool of test data. Closed betas are nice and personal and all, but an open beta will more often net more responses and useful responses at that. Unfortunately, it’s U.S. only for the time being. But with as much success as I can foresee, I don’t think RIM will keep it too close to home too long.
