If you were planning to pick up a Nook ebook reader at a Barnes & Noble store today or this week, hold it right there! The company has announced that due to a very large number of Internet pre-orders they have delayed the in-store Nook shipments until December 7th. A little over a week ago, Barnes & Noble announced that the Nook had been sold out until January 2010. Although not specified, it appears now that they were referring to Internet orders only.
The Nooks were planned to be shipped to retail stores today, November 30th. Mary Ellen Keating, a Barnes & Noble spokeswoman, told Reuters that “[They] expect to have them in [their] highest-volume stores on December 7th and in a very limited number.”
There you have it, folks. It’s not even certain if your local Barnes & Noble store will even get the Nook e-reader this holiday season. I guess we all know what this means: heading out to major cities and camping outside Barnes & Noble stores!
