Windows 7 Surpassess Mac OS X in Market Share

A statistic put out by the internet metrics company Net Applications demonstrates something which many of us were expecting, and that’s the fact that Windows 7 has now surpassed MAC OS X (in its entirety) in terms of market share. That’s incredible, especially when one considers how long Windows 7 has been out compared to MAC OS X.
Windows already dominates at 92.64% market share (source), and Windows 7 shows no signs of stopping in terms of growth. The operating system is growing at a rate of about 3.9% monthly, and is unsurprisingly getting great reviews. Consumers appear to be satisfied as well.
While there’s no easy way to predict market share level, analysts are confident that Windows 7 will continue to gain market share, leaving MAC OS X in the dust.

Don’t think me a Mac Fanboy for this. I happen to have and love both windows and mac for various things. I have been thouroughly impressed by Windows 7. Personally I’ve been advising every Vista user I come across to run not walk to the nearest 7 distributor. With that said this is the most obvious and pointless thing I have ever read. Thats not a smear on Eric, he’s only reporting on the study. Of course Windows 7 was going to out pace Mac OS X almost instantly Why? Because you only have two catagories of people in the Windows camp. The first group are those who have Windows XP and wisely held out because Vista sucked so bad. The Second group (The one I fall into) are those who either bought a new computer and had Vista forced down their throat or went out and bought it as an upgrade (me….Damn it!). So you’ve got people who never upgraded and people who did upgrade and are pissed about it. What do you think people from both categories were going to do the second something that is simultaneously worth upgrading from XP and better than Vista hit the market? And people get paid how much for these obvious assesments?
I agree with Tony.
However one thing this does not mention is what version of OSX windows 7 is beating. The majority of mac users have not upgraded to the newest version dubbed “snow lepard” most are one step behind. The main difference between 10.5 and 10.6 is 64 bit processing. Which I can support is better, but most users don’t have a need for it yet.
@Mike: Windows 7 is beating all versions of OS X collectively.
I would like to add that on top of those who had Windows versions either waiting to upgrade or replace and those who upgraded later, it is worth remembering that Windows 7 is shipped via at least 8 different major manufacturers of PC, OSX is shipped via 1. The artical does not state if OEM releases are included if they are then it’s really not worth the time to even mention it let alone publish it.
