AT&T Attempts to Strike Back at Verizon With a New Ad and Fails Miserably
AT&T and Verizon have been duking it out ever since the “There’s a map for that” ad Verizon released no too long ago. In short, AT&T sues Verizon with no valid reason and loses. Now that AT&T simply cannot take the truth, they’re misleading consumers with a brand-spanking-new advertisement with actor Luke Wilson standing on a map throwing post cards.
Here’s the thing: AT&T’s map includes ALL of their coverage, not simply 3G, which is what Verizon originally highlighted in the ad that ignited this entire fire storm. It’s a great way to mislead consumers who have no idea what the difference between 3G, EDGE, and so forth is. My opinion is that this advertisement is a complete failure and completely misses the point and avoids the truth (as you’d expect). AT&T — please, please, PLEASE drop it. It’s hard to admit you’re in second place — but you are. At any rate, take a look at the ad:

Eric, You’re just one of the millions of dumb consumers MISLED by Verizon. What technologies are used in Verizon’s mobile network? 2G-CDMA One, 3G-CDMA 2000. What’s the difference? For Voice – ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. For Data, yes, they’ve migrated to EVDO from IS-95B. The MAP is apparently for the Voice service. I don’t believe EVDO is covering no-man land and Verizon is not going bankrupt. So they are comparing their ALL 3G Voice Network (or ALL 2G Voice Network) to AT&T’s true 3G Voice and Data Networks. Tell me that’s not misleading. That’s why AT&T’s Ad is showing both 2G and 3G.
BTW – I didn’t see any news that says AT&T lost the suit. Where do you see that? or You’re just MISLEADING the consumers also.

@Mobile Geek: Come on now! The difference is that Verizon is comparing apples to apples in their ads. AT&T is comparing Apples to Grapes. That’s why they’re misleading people. AT&T’s argument isn’t even relevant.
I’m not denying anything they say about their network in this ad. It’s all true. But come on, why wouldn’t they address 3G coverage only (as Verizon did)? Because there’s no contest.

Finally, I don’t think I’m misleading any consumers. I’m fairly confident I’ve shown you enough evidence to make my point.
