Gameloft Drifting Away From Android Development

Gameloft Leaving Android

On Friday, Gameloft Finance Director, Alexandre de Rochefort, said at an investor conference that the company has “significantly cut [their] investment in Android platform, just like … many others.” Gameloft is a very large and popular French mobile phone game company which just made $132 million in the last 3 quarters, so their decision is of course nothing to be glad about, even if you’re Google.

According to Rochefort, the reason why the company is cutting back is because the Android’s application store [Android Market] “is not as neatly done as on the iPhone. Google has not been very good to entice customers to actually buy products. On Android nobody is making significant revenue. [They] are selling 400 times more games on iPhone than on Android.”

That’s definitely a warning sign telling us that things aren’t going that great with Android. Google needs to step it up in order to be able to seriously compete with bigger platforms like the iPhone.
