Mobile Carrier Drama Extends to Canada

If you thought the US was cool because it was the only country in which there was a dramatic carrier battle going on – ahem, AT&T and Verizon - you are completely wrong. Turns out, Canada is witnessing a similar carrier war of its own right now, as the country’s largest wireless carriers are butting heads. TELUS is reportedly suing Rogers over allegations that Roger’s claims of being “Canada’s most reliable network” and “two times faster than any other” became untrue on November 5th when it [TELUS] launched its very own 21Mbps HSPA network.
The story goes like this: to avoid court, TELUS asked Rogers nicely to stop their claims, Rogers refused to, TELUS then filed the lawsuit, and now Rogers keep refusing to back down claiming independent studies dating back to 2007 clearly show its network performs with more superiority. TELUS on the other hand, has not undergone a network performance test yet, which clearly puts them at a disadvantage.
TELUS is hoping that its lawsuit will force Rogers to admit it violated the Competition Act, to stop all its speed and reliability claims, and most importantly and typically, to pay TELUS for damages caused.
