Florida Company Seeks to Shut Down Twitter Over Patent Infringement

Twitter-logoYou’ve probably heard it before: “You get big, and then you get sued.” It’s an absolute fact of the business world. Once you grow super-large, someone will be after you for some of your killings.

That’s exactly the case here. The Chicago Tribune reported yesterday that Florida-based Cooper Industries Plc (NYSE: CBE) is seeking a court injunction to essentially stop Twitter in its tracks for apparently infringing upon Cooper’s Cooper Notification patent. The company’s Cooper Notification product produced mass security alerts for various uses.  Not surprisingly , the company actually wants Twitter to pay up for a license to use the patent.

“Cooper has suffered, and will continue to suffer, and is entitled to be compensated,” the company said.
