We’ve reported previously that non-English top-level domain names would soon be available — and today’s the start of registration for .masr [.مصر] domain names. The TLD will represent the country of Egypt, and literally translates to “.Egypt”.
“It is a great moment for us,” said Tarek Kamel, Egypt’s information technology officer at a conference Monday.
The registrations began at approximately 10 PM Greenwich Mean Time, and it is currently unknown how many of the .masr domains have been registered. What we do know, however, is that this opens up new doors for the approximately 300 million Arabic speakers of the world.
