GameStop to Test Digital Game Downloads In Early 2010

GameStop revealed at the BMO Capital Management Digital Entertainment conference that in early 2010 the company will start testing a new system that will allow users to digitally purchase and download game updates and/or add-ons rather than games. According to GameStop Chief Operating Officer Paul Raines, the reason is because “a large market for full game downloads is not imminent, (but) the add-on downloadable market will grow.”

GameStop expressed that the new program will work in conjunction with online gaming services such as Microsoft’s Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network [PSN].

Since they will be focusing on add-ons rather than games, the success of the program is already being questioned. I guess it’s safe to say that only time will tell how successful it is. Let us know your opinion in the comments below.
