Google Voice Search Launches on Nokia And Learns Mandarin Chinese

Google Mobile App Chinese

Google announced today on an Official Google Mobile Blog post that they’ve launched a new version of Google Search by voice for Nokia S60 phones, which are some of the most popular phones in the world. They also took the opportunity to announce that besides English, the new version of Google Voice Search for Nokia S60 phones comes with the ability to understand Mandarin Chinese.

At the moment Mandarin speech recognition only works on Nokia S60 phones, but Google expects to add support for other mobile platforms like iPhone and Android. They also want people to know that since it’s the very first version of the speech recognition system in a language other than English, it might not recognize words in Mandarin from someone who does not have a clear Beijing accent. They new system will be improved over time.

If you happen to speak Mandarin Chinese and you have a Nokia S60 phone, give it a try. Download the application by going to m.google.com on your mobile browser. And let us know how the new system is working for you.
